Looking for a pair of upland lace boots. Want as light as possible, no insulation, and waterproof. Any opinions on kangaroo leather? I’ve read that is half the weight of cowhide.

The last years I was bull riding, The gloves I used were made of kangaroo leather. Thinner and lasted longer than the thicker cowhide gloves I used to use. I would have no problem having hunting/hiking boots made from kangaroo leather.

I've had Irish Setter and Cabelas used to have their own brand in a kangaroo upland boot. They came insulated and uninsulated. I still have a pair and love them.

I wear Russell's. They are the finest upland boot made. They will make them with whatever type of leather you want.

I have liked my Lowa's a lot. I have worn Danners before and they were good.

Not just brand, height of the boot also plays a big factor from my experience in how much you can walk in them. I require a lot of range of motion so very high boots will give me some trouble. My point being if you get a boot that lasts forever but is uncomfortable or limits how far you can walk in them without having fatigued feet/ankles you won't care about the outter.

Also take good care of your boots, clean and oil/wax them per manufacturers recommendations, I can always do a better job on this.

My favorites are my Cabela's Speed Hunter boots with the BOA system but they quit making them and not sure why. Much more comfortable than my Danners, Rocky limited editions, etc.

The Russel’s say they aren’t made for inserts. I have Superfeet inserts to combat Plantar Faciatis.

I had been through three different brands of snake boots in four years before I found Irish Setter.
They are the most comfortable I have ever worn and they seem to be holding up well

Not looking for snake boots, I’ve got a pair of Chippewas. These are for walking trials, even though a copperhead was killed during last trial weekend before last.

Used to love the Danner Pronghorns, but they changed manufacturing locale, and could barely get a season out of them. I got a pair of Lowa Renegades and man are they light, comfortable and built to last. They are an inch shorter than the Pronghorns or the old pair of Russells I have (which are great boots but greatly expensive too), but I am sold. Asolo is what my son wears, and they are very similar and a good option as well

I have a pair of Lowa's and like them but the insoles that came in them are nothing to brag about. They are much lighter than Irish Setter's I have for sure.

Currently, I wear a pair of Timberland.
Very light and waterproof.

Hanwag Yukon but they take some breaking in and are not ultra light. I personally prefer the side to side torsional stability over weight

Don't think I've owned more than 3 pair all my life and I was know as a man who could walk anyone down. Used mine for morning walks with my dogs before i discovered New Balance. Think these are 25 years old and my last. They had a what was supposed to be a waterproof lining. The heels are pretty much worn down.



Don't remember ever oiling or treating them.

I have a pair of Cabelas Meindl(sp) They are 3 pounds and comfortable. I wear a 4E or so and they fit really great and walk all day. I wear uninsulated boots. When it gets a little chilly, I wear BPS life time merino wool socks. They are very comfortable and have a life time guarantee.

I owned a pair of Cabela's Kangaroo boots years ago. They WERE great. Wore 'em out finally.
When I went back to get another pair, they had stopped marketing those.
Changed to Irish Setter then..........and on, and on.

I much prefer a hiking or backpacking boot over an upland boot. Lowa, kennetrek or zamberlain are popular. But everyone has different feet you have to try them all on to get the right boot for you.

Have a pair of South Forties well over 20 years old. Only boot I'll ever buy.

I had 2 pair, one all leather and the other the canvas and leather. Both were GI issue combat boots, one the Vietnam Jungle and the other the standard garrison issue. After the Army I used them as my hunting boots, and I walked many a mile in both versions. The leather version was for cold weather, if real cold I would wear nylon or poly sock liners with wool socks, that kept my feet warm. For hot or warm wet weather, the jungle boots were the best. Right after Desert Storm, I picked up a pair of surplus desert boots, they are as good as their "forefathers".

I also had a pair of Rocky Mountain insulated boots for Colorado and New Mexico hunts.
