Where can I get accurate information on brakes? I would like to know just how much difference in the recoil the brake has. Example a 300 WM without brake has 50# and same rifle with brake has 25# ( my figures just made up). I would like the information to have been formulated from actual testing and not calculated. Thanks Daniel

General consensus is about 40-60% reduction depending on caliber. Having shot my .308 with and without its suppressor ( which has an external brake on the end of the suppressor) I would say that is pretty accurate. My new .300 WM has a brake and I was very surprised how soft it shoots. I realize none of this is the data you requested but I bet if you dig, it’s out there.

I have a brake on my .300 Win and I would venture a guess it’s in the 50%-60% range.

It’s lightweight rifle ( 6 1/2 lbs ) and its very pleasant to shoot with the brake and decelerator recoil pad. I would let my 12 year shoot it.

I think different types of breaks would effect things as well. They do help a ton though. I had one on a 300 RUM and with it the recoil was about like a 30-30. It would absolutely knock the crap out of you without it.

But man are they loud. One day there was a yote crossing a plowed field about 700-800 yards away. I took 4 shots at him with that 300 RUM...almost took his nose off with one. Unfortunately I did permanent damage to my left ear because I wasn’t wearing hearing protection. It rang real hard for weeks and now just plain stinks. I can’t hear good at all out of it. So if you get one, please make sure and protect your ears. And tell the people around you to as well up

Four years old, but a very extensive test, and very good data learned and documented.

Put more weight on the rifle or just buy a heavier gun.
