I generally wouldn’t use rotten tomato as a good metric but movie looks way over the top.

If it keeps people thinking about and remembering WW2 then it’s fine by me. Maybe some young people will read about it.

In the original they pretty much pieced the battle scenes together using other movies as well as battle footage that had nothing to do with Midway. You will see Heston crash a jet at the end, Essex class carriers (none at Midway), carriers with angled flight decks, a German He-111 being shot down, an American battleship (none at Midway) and various other errors. I point these out to show the original is by no means perfect. I agree with TurkeyHunter, if this helps people remember and even become interested in history, then that's a win-win. I like war movies in general and will give this a shot when it comes out on cable...which won't be long.

That being said, two of my very favorite movies are "Midway" and "Tora! Tora! Tora!". I overlook their errors because they are not recreating events but are merely films for entertainment purposes.

I saw "Midway" when it first came out. Bob, what was the sound system called? Sensaround? You sure felt like you were there.

I may see it largely to see what they did with CGI. I don't expect it to be better than the original.

I wonder what Glenn Ford thought about playing a Navy Admiral in the movie, since he was a Marine fighter pilot in WW2. Could you see any of the actors today climbing into an FA-18

I noticed one of the trailers included a scene with far too many planes than you would ever see grouped together.

Saw a report today where CGI is being used to bring James Dean back from the dead to appear in a new movie.

It was pretty good! I'd give it a 75. Worth the money for sure. It followed Admiral Nimitz quite a bit, that's who Woody Harrelson plays.

It was good. Not omg great but good. I did like that the main characters were actually real people instead of fictionalized randoms like in the movie Pearl Harbor.

The best part was at the end where they showed what happened to the main characters in real like.

Special effects were very good along with the "surround sound" bouncing me out of my seat.
