Three times, once in San Saba county years ago he thought I had dove in the car after dark. No ticket
Once in McCullough county and again in San Saba county, both during deer season and no ticket.

I've been checked at least once per year, every year, and in multiple states. Most are on public land, either National Forest or WMA's. I know that I am squeaky clean all the time, and welcome the chance to visit, discuss the hunt, or learn of other opportunities while I am there. I'm of the mind set that they are working for me, and am glad to see them out in the field doing their job.

Probably 8-9 times through the years.

I'm not sure. At least a dozen times fishing on Fork, Rayburn and Pinkston. Four or five times dove hunting, once duck hunting and once deer hunting. Never received a citation. All the Texas Game Wardens have been great, save one on Lake Fork many years ago.

License checked on three different lakes. Brownwood GW gave us (kids) a pass on the boat registration being out since it was my buddie's dad's 12' john boat. Only checked once for deer and it was more just a visit than a check. Have had several look deer over at the locker plant but didn't really check any of the hunters. Never gotten a ticket.

While fishing, at least a dozen times. Only time I ever had a problem was when I borrowed my buddies boat because mine was in the shop. Got checked on OH Ivie and didn't have the boat registration card with me. Ended up calling my buddy and letting the GW talk to him. Got a brief lecture about always having the card with the boat and that was the end of it.

While hunting I've actually been checked maybe 5 or 6 times. Never any problems other than being told to leave a place during dove season because the neighbors about a mile away had baited a field. We didn't know about it and didn't get in any trouble, he just told us to not hunt there for a couple of weeks. If you count "visits" with the local GW who was a good friend, you can add at least another 20 to that number. But all we did was chit chat and he never asked to see anything.

I don't have enough fingers and toes to keep up with the GW encounters, all while hunting and fishing. I've always been in compliance with the law and all encounters pleasant.
Back in the 90's we hunted just outside of Brady. Every Friday night before the opening of deer season our good friend GW Ronnie would swing by camp to shoot the chit and eat some beans.

How our friendship with GW Ronnie started............ It was tradition that my Dad cook up a big pot of beans the Friday before the opener. All hunters in camp were welcome to come into our camp house and enjoy a savory bowl of reds.
We had 15 total hunters that hunted the ranch and not all had yet arrived in camp before the we sat down to a big bowl of beans.
As the few of us that were there sitting at the table, headlights were seen pulling into camp. Shortly after a knock is heard at the door with a voice... "game warden"... My Dad the clown he always was calls out "I got your game warden".... another knock on the door with a louder voice "GAME WARDEN". My my Dad yells out even louder "I SAID I GOT YOUR F%@$ING GAME WARDEN"... I get up and open the door and there stands Ronnie. My Dad turns white while other hunters mouths drop before getting up to meet our county GW for the first time. My Dad apologies to Ronnie, explaining that not all hunters had yet arrived and he thought it was one of them pretending to be the GW. We all had a good laugh including Ronnie. He was invited to sit down and have a bowl of beans.
That's was our first but never last visit from McCulloch County game warden Ronnie. The remaining years we hunted that ranch we could always count on sitting down to a big bowl of reds with Ronnie the Friday before the opener.

Been checked in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Kansas, Wyoming, and Texas.

One summer (many moons ago), the same two Arkansas wardens checked my brother and I every weekend for fishing license, fire extinguisher, PFDs, etc. Got to be comical. They knew we had everything, but checked anyway.

Besides the above, only one encounter was unfriendly. Warden did not know the law, and threatened to issue my buddy a ticket for hunting after his deer limit was taken. That year, he and I had both drawn a bonus doe tag that did not count towards your annual limit (stated so right on the tag). Showed bonus tag to warden, he disagreed that it was a bonus deer. Finally let us leave with a chewing out and warning. Called the Game and Fish Commission to verify, and they advised we were correct. That particular warden had a reputation as a jerk, and no one was sad to see him retire.

Twice and it just so happened to be in the same calendar year but different hunting years if you will.

Many times in Wyoming, never in Texas. We have check stations during some seasons that you must stop at even if not successful. GW is usually there. The check stations are along the highway or main road in or out and you only have to stop if you come across one, don't have to go to one if it's not on your route.
We've had GWs check us on the NF and BLM many times as well.

Once in my life. I was up on Caracas Mesa in New Mexico when a warden stepped out from behind a clump of cedar. That place is very remote and I would have sworn I was the only human being for miles around.

Have been checked in TN, AL, FL, AR, MD and TX. Most memorable though, was on my little 3 acre dove field. We only had 4 shooters on the field, when we started seeing green coming out of the tree lines surrounding us. Two from TWRA, (Tennessee Wildlife) and nine feds. We had no issues, and never figured out why all the attention on my little spot.

Been checked 3 or 4 times dove hunting. Never while deer or hog hunting. Been checked a few times on the lake. All were nice except the rude red headed warden on Fork. Been checked several times in Colorado trout fishing. They were always real nice and willing to help or give you areas to try.

Been checked twice this year, and had a 3rd encounter earlier in the year. Once opening day of dove season, then again on opening day of general deer season. Separate counties so not the same warden coming to check. Didn’t get in any trouble either time. Called the game warden out to dispatch a coyote pup that was not in good shape and in a residential area where my office is. Dove season was the first time I’ve been checked while hunting.

A few times while fishing, only trouble was not having a license the first year I was supposed to, within a month of my birthday.

Not positive, but probably about 5-7 times in my life. There have been several occasions on Bob Hall pier where GW's have walked around my wife and I to get to other people to check and never checked us. We must have a law abiding vibe to us. laugh

Multiple times, water and land. The best one was another deer lease member who tagged a nice 8 point buck with a Red Drum Tag!! Long story short, We head into camp and there is a game warden on the main road. He checks me and I'm good. He asks if anyone shot anything, I tell him I think X shot a buck. X rolls into camp all excited bragging about this huge buck he shot. The GW looks at the tag and says, "We have a problem. This deer is tagged with a Red Drum tag." At this point, I knew it was about to get good, and I knew it was serious, but I did all I could not to bust out laughing. This hunter shot a nice 8 point (the same deer I watched all bow season) late in the evening. He tagged the deer after dark. With his older eyes, he inverted his license and tagged it with a fish tag. His saving grace was that he wrote on the license on the back and checked the two "buck" boxes for it. The GW realized it was an honest mistake, and said had he not written on the license, he would have confiscated everything, rifle, deer, and the fancy Dodge 2500 truck the deer was laying on. We had a good laugh about it later.

Been checked several times but the one I remember most is when we went mule deer hunting in New Mexico we didn't see a deer at all where we were hunting so we rode down the road about a mile to the next camp met some friendly local folks, they had the back of their truck loaded up with bucks. We noticed they had wheelers but didn't think much about it then till the game warden came to our camp wanting to know where our wheelers were ,luckily we didn't bring any.Come to find out they were posting a couple guys on top of the hills and they would zig zag riding up the hills pushing them over the top to the hunters. This was on Public land so no wheelers were allowed off road.Still glad we didn't bring wheelers cause those guys were packed and gone time the warden showed up.

Twice. One by federals while whitewing hunting. Once while riding on a quail rig without a gun.

Once in Wisconsin, there your license is attached to your coat back so it can be seen from a ways off. Also checked for guns to be unloaded when walking on road.
In Arizona in early 80’s. He came back a couple days later to tell us a snow storm was coming and we should head out.

Several times, we had a GW that liked to park on a hill near us, he could see everything we did, and then come by mid afternoon. Now he is retired and haven't seen one in several years.

Only in two places.

City Lake Park in Mesquite, TX back in the 80's, right after it was stocked with trout for the winter. If you were there at the right time you could see him pretty much every day. He was nice.

Also below Lock and Dam #3 on the Cape Fear River in NC. Our spot was a pretty good ways down river and he thought for sure he'd catch us doing something illegal because we walked so far out of sight. That and my nervousness. We did some beer in the cooler whoch was prohibited below the dam but he did not care about that. I assume because we had a bag of trash we had loaded with litter he did not say anything about a few beers in the cooler. Or maybe we were just so far downriver.
