20% if they do a good job...

I prefer a gift but, that’s hard to do unless you already know the guide.

Me, too...I have shown up with a good knife with the guides name on it.
But the best gift I ever gave....I got the guides address and then his wife's name
in just normal conversation. On December 15 I mailed her a Neiman Marcus
catalog and a $100 gift card. On Christmas day, I got a call from the guide saying
that if I wanted to hunt with him next year, I had my choice of dates before he
booked anybody else. Best $100 I ever spent.

great idea

20% not too bad $320 on a $4000 hunt, IF the outfit does a great job with meals, and doling everything they can to get your animals. Nothing is guaranteed, I know this.

I'm the king of "man, you should have been here last week" bang

20% plus gear usually

I have tipped way more then 20% also.

If you find an outfitter you like and want to come back to. Try to take care of them to your best ability, they have choices. Not saying it’s mandatory but it’s not going to hurt you, also be the best “you” you can be. Understanding that hunting is hunting and you also have the “you” factor goes as far or further then monetary.

I could see 20% as long as the price of the hunt isn't too high. But if it's a high end hunt, that tip could get out of hand. $2,000 on a $10,000 hunt seems crazy to me. At some point the law of diminishing returns kicks in.

I would rather pay for a lease with that 10K and earn that big buck. Plus have a place to go and just enjoy the outdoors with family and friends.

On my Wyoming hunts back to back years I killed a 7X7 bull scoring 346, next year a 6X6 bull scoring 315. I tipped my guide $750.00 each hunt. Gifts are nice but everyone likes cash. Gifts and cash are even nicer.
The guide worked his a#$ off and if not for him I'd have 2 big empty spots on my walls.
