Have a buddy coming to South Texas from ft Worth. His and his sons first time hunting. Going to let them harvest some hogs and does. I usually process my own meat so not too familiar with rules..To take the quarters back to ft worth do they have to bring heads for proof of sex for deer? Any specific rules for hogs? And finally any good processers Irving/ft Worth area? Thanks

The tag needs to stay with the meat until it arrives at its final destination, i.e. house to be processed or an actual processor. The processor will ask for the tag.

Keep the heads with your transit until they are dropped off.

Depends on where. We have our deer inspected for fever ticks and then they give us forms to carry back the quarters and back straps. This counts as the proof of sex so we don't have to carry doe heads back to the processor if we don't want to.

I just carry the head back and throw it out in the pasture for the coyotes or the trash can. This is for does. I am on a one buck lease so I usually euro mount whatever we shoot.

So by reading towards the end of this, if the landowner or landowner agent was to write a quick not as suggested, i would not have to bring a deer head back to houston and freeze it til garbage day?

If this holds true, what if I am the landowner. Can I just write myself a note?

We leave all we can their as not to spread anything from one ranch to the other. Its also convenient so it doesn't have to sit and stink until trash day. We will boil the heads there for a euro mount or leave it a taxidermist down there for other mounts.
