Well I was debating on what to do all the way until parking yesterday morning- See my thread in 'Deer Hunting'. Decided to keep in simple and just go sit the blind with the best vantage and get a feel for the current situation since it has been 2 weeks since anyone was out. I got settled into the small, shallow plywood blind and waited for light. I was intently watching the open areas and a feeder along the treeline 100 yards away. I glanced left to see the sunlight spilling through the trees and there was buck standing there 35 yards away!! The plexiglass window on that side of the blind was closed and there was no way it was going to open without sending him running. He had snuck up through a small depression from the south that must have been just deep enough to cover most of him up. He was a tall, wide 7pt with a big belly. A flick of a tail to his right revealed another deer, and when he lifted his head up I knew I had a shooter!!

Even better, he was headed directly to the front of the blind. My only problem was my 24" barreled 6.5cm needed to be about halfway out the window to get where I could shoot and this buck was going to cross around 25 yards away. I left the rifle leaned in the corned and sloooooowly drew my Rock Island TAC 10mm. I'm quite comfortable with this pistol out to 50 yards and the 200gr XTPs I knew would be plenty for a deer. The buck stepped out in front of my open window and I settled my front sight on his shoulder and before the pistol was back down out of recoil the buck had dropped in his tracks!!!

Later on I found I had a trail cam pic of this buck before he busted both his brow tines off! He has a bunch of character and I'm thrilled to start the season off 5 minutes in with a great buck!
