Had a few good hunts, saw lots of deer and activity. Looks like a lot of south Texas is still pretty dry. Saw a good buck to take out, about 3 years old long slick beams with dog catchers. He was out before light and camped out close to the blind never got a chance to open that window for a shot.

The evening hunt saw several more deer and collected my first kill with the new rifle. [Linked Image]

My little boy sat Saturday evening with his Opie, they saw some deer but I think the hand pointing out the window at them made them a little skitish lol they also got to watch a bobcat drink from the water trough... I’ll smile and listen to that story as many times as he will tell it. Also saw a few Javalinas. Had a great trip and it melted my heart when I woke him up this morning for school and he says daddy I wish we were still at the rancho! smile Can’t wait to go back.

Good deal. Wish my Son still liked to hunt.

cheers Well done! On both the pig kill and getting your little boy out with Opie. I'm sure they both were "over the moon."

Seriously. He doesn't like the nice girls. Strippers and the like are his preferred game.

While I don't have that problem yet, thank the lord he is only 5, he isn't near as interested in it as I was at his age or forever as far as that goes. Sometimes I wonder if why I was more interested was because I got left behind till I was bigger at least potty trained etc. He has been going since in diapers.

Taking my son out next weekend with me. I try to get in some good hunts without him so that I can just focus in on making sure that he is having a good time when we go together. That way, those hands out the windows and talking, or moving at the wrong time doesn't become a frustration. Just a teaching moment and having fun. Gonna try and get him on a squirrel or two as well. Fun times. Enjoy them!

James, sounds like fun. They sure grow up fast. Cherish all the times that he likes hangin' with "the old man".

Always a joy to get blood on a new rifle.

Congratulations.

Can’t wait til my grandson is old enough to go. Guess I’ll have to start deer hunting again when that time comes. I remember taking my son, and all the Hans out the window, moving around in the blind. It was much easier taking him dove hunting.

I inherited two boys when I met my wife.

The older kid isn’t as interested in hunting as the younger one is. School sports and activities pretty much eat up all his free time.

Me and the middle boy hunt every free moment he has during the season. Him getting a kill is just as exciting to me as if I’m pulling the trigger.

But neither of them are as ate up with it as I was, but then again they get to go a lot more than I did. At that age I got to go hunt once maybe twice a season.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

^^^^^

Agree completely.

In my case it's my Daughter (grown now) but she started hunting with me at age 9. She still comes home when she can and hunts with Dad.

Do cherish your time with them. They grow up fast and other interests begin to compete (Cars, Oppostie Sex, Social Activities).

You probably well remember what a BIG deal it was to go hunting (as seen through a kid's eyes), so my hat is off to you (and others) who take the time to get them out in the field. They will remember it for a lifetime.

That's a very dark world that sometimes needs a lot of help to get out of, especially on the lady's side. Prayers up.

Did I mention, I'm sure I have, that my first word actually was "deer"? True story. (Okay, okay, they hung a little deer over the crib.) Nobody gets as excited about deer hunting as I do.

The one daughter closest to me is bringing her family out to the ranch in a couple of weeks. They're a family of jocks. It borders on a religion. They're two little ones are basically my world. I hope I can keep the hunting fire alive. Her husband is only 9 years younger than me, gets more frustrated easily than me ('didn't think that human existed before I met him), and has only been hunting very sporadically with his dad (now deceased, but there are PLENTY of issues there with that man, but, I digress). I hate how you now have to cram in a thing like hunting in an extremely limited amount of time for these busy, busy kids. Nature doesn't work that way.

yes, you are 100% correct. What was once a pleasurable activity to savor and enjoy is now being rushed thru to make it to the next event.

I refused to do it any longer. I did it the first couple of years with them, would rush out to hunt that morning to make it to a baseball practice or basketball game at noon. No more. If there is a sporting event or other activity that day, they have a choice to either miss it or miss hunting. I'm not gonna do the cram style hunts anymore. Takes the fun completely out of it and its a terrible habit to get into

Redchevy, hopefully than youngster will wan to be at the "rancho" for many years, a lot can be learned out where its quite.

Erath, I doubt there are few men that haven't dabbled down that road in one fashion or another, maybe just drooling over a photo or whatever, Just hope he gets thru it and doesn't "tag out" up
