What's your thoughts on corning roads before the hunt with a side x side, does it bogger up mature bucks or increase your odds in bringing him out. This is for South Texas.

Brings them out is my experience down there. Has never done much for me in north Texas.

When I used to hunt S. Texas I always corned the senderos and saw far better deer in the senderos than I ever saw in a feeder pen. I put markers out at 200 yards and didn't turn on the feeder until I passed the marker since that's my range for a comfortable shot. Another thing I did was to zig-zag as I spread the corn so deer wouldn't line up in a straight line. I'm sure others have different opinions but it worked for me.

Great for straight senderos. A very light trail out to 6 or 7 hundred yards each direction and a heavier application within your comfortable shooting distance. If you trail out corn regularly, they'll be out on the road eating it quickly. We used to have them trickle out sometimes just a 100-200 yards behind the jeep as we drove slowly down the senderos trickling out corn from a coffee can or a sturdy plastic cup.

I corn roads everytime too, but since I got cellular cameras I checked the camera after I got in the stand one morning and noticed the buck we were after was in the feeder pen and I ran him out when driving in and never saw him during the hunt.

Corning roads in south Texas is great.
I hunted a place with no blinds and feeders .We made brush blinds and corned the roads. We had tons of deer.

Ill start doing a little corning next weekend. I usually do it mid day between hunts.

If ya really want to mess them up, drop some doe in heat lure out, as you corn the road..just drip a drop every few feet..if you see some droppings, squirt a mess on them, as well...it will usually take a day or two, but once the young bucks start hunting the offending doe, and the big boys get a whiff, well they will linger around all day.

I corn in Schliecher county before each hunt. As said above, see better bucks at the hand corn than the feeder. And deer go to it every time

I’ve done but also drop a little rice bran.it works for me. I only do it later in the season if they start avoiding feeders.

Very effective for deer while being far less a long-term attraction than a feeder for feral hogs.

Same. I hunt King County and it works like a charm. I often see the deer coming out to the road to feed in my rear view mirror.

Works great everywhere I have hunted. May have to do it a few times before the deer catch on but once they do, they will respond every bit as quickly as when your feeder spins. We have found that you will have deer respond to a tailgate feeder that will not come by a feeder. You might be surprised what shows up on a corn line, the longer the better.

To me the more corn the better. I saw javalina and hogs every hunt I sat this weekend. Since I had a feeder and road corn or hand thrown corn in several different locations and directions my deer never moved, they just went to a fed area the hogs/javi weren't at.

In my opinion it depends a lot on 2 things. 1, how often you feed it. if they are accustomed to it then its great. 2, the range conditions, we are dry now, first dry deer season we have had in several years, if you drop a kernel of corn rats, deer, hogs, javi and birds are on their way.

One thing I like to do is feed the roads around noon or after the morning hunt or at night when we get down. Usually if you feed them a little heavy there is still plenty left for the hunt.

I'm not far from you and we corn roads right before each hunt. And there are usually deer on the corn before my butt hits the chair.

Helps with deer and is great for quail in S Tex.

Question, how often do you have to do it in order for the deer to get used to it. If you only do it once a month, will that be effective? Do you have to corn roads year round in order for them to catch on, or if you only do it during rifle season, will they catch on quickly?

We corn the roads and shooting lanes, I usually do it mid afternoon and go back to camp, then go back an hr. or so later for the evening hunt, We just hand throw it "as also mentioned above", put it out in a zig - zag pattern.
Deer and hogs will usually go to it first before going to the feeder. Been doing it for years. We call it "Chumming"......... I would not recommend doing it in the dark before the a.m. hunt, you will be spreading your scent and making unnecessary noise, if the wind is right. you can do it and get away it. Also, I use the B&J powder and pour it in a pile, do it later in the season (after the leaves have fallen off and the freezes have killed mostly all the grasses off- then they can smell it better and that will usually get them to come in and stay,,,,,

If you already have feeders going, deer are already used to the sound of the feeder. When you do it once or twice they will be ready for the feed buggy to come by. Looks like kids behind the ice cream truck. We'll corn an hour or 2 before the feeder goes off and most of the time deer are on it before we can get off the buggy and in the stand. The big bucks hang back until the road has young bucks and does in it and they feel no danger.
