We have 2-3 shooters here for daughter but haven’t saw them while hunting yet

But if we strike out deer season, I’m considering here a meat exoctic hunt

What’s the best table fare?

1. Cow elk
2. Axis/cull

I don’t wanna spend more than $1500

I’ve never had either

Elk is excellent, but I haven't tried axis, so not sure how they compare. I know elk usually wont disappoint tho, may come down to which hunt has the best value.

I put axis and elk pretty much equal on taste, lots more meat on an elk though

I would rate my top three this way:
1. Moose
2. Axis
3. Elk
They are close enough to me that on any given day with different cooks or recipes they could change order.

I wouldn't turn down elk or axis, but if I was being picky, I would opt for pheasant.

Oryx but $$$$ much...…...I don't find Axis much different from whitetail...…...Elk would be the best value.

Saw your budget, likely couldn’t get a private nilgai hunt for that. However, a fishing guide I know claims there are a ton of nilgai on public land near Port Mansfield. Trick is you need a boat to get out to them. I’d add it would need to be a big boat as those things are huge. Maybe someone else here knows about it.

I've eaten all sorts of game (from warthog chops at breakfast to chicken-fried elephant cheek for dinner) and love to cook.

Hands down: cow elk. $1100-1200 dollars buys you a bunch of some of the finest eating on the planet in my opinion. The She-Wolf and I were experimenting last night and we did sourdough chicken-fried elk (and we finished off the leftovers for breakfast this morning). Awesome stuff!

The last 5 years I've had whitetail, mule deer, axis, wild boar, black buck and Japanese sika. Japanese sika was the best of those. It's been 20+ years since I've had Nilgai but I remember it being fantastic.

The best wild game table fare, I have ever had was a 2 yr old cow elk. Hands down the best. A properly cared for pronghorn, rates pretty high also.

Roger that. Young cow Elk is the best I’ve ever had, followed by Oryx/Feral Pig/Nilgai/Axis/Eland/Whitetail/Blackbuck/Fallow etc. I’ve eaten a lot of other critters not mentioned but this is my opinion.

Gotta say I think the best food minded meat I have killed myself would be a nice plump feral hog, much preferably a sow.
