All our hunters in our camp were not seeing much. I saw a few does and that was it. All the cows were laying down, too. So, that explains it! (We are in Stephens County)

We had a lot of activity. This morning I had a buck chasing a doe all over the pasture for the better part of an hour. In all, saw 8 deer this morning, including one reallynice one. He was jus on the wrong side of the fence. Denise shot a coyote, and all hunters saw deer.

I saw a lot of deer, just narrow 8's and 6's, even a 10, that I really didn't want to pull the trigger on. Saw at least a dozen does a day, so that's good. You know what they say about boys and girls, right? Nothing was really chasing yet. Following, but not chasing. This time last year the bucks were already in hot pursuit.

Oh and yeah. This is our first opening weekend in about 15 years without something hanging in the rack.

Down south the bucks are still together, youth weekend my two sons shot a management buck each. Didn't see much at feeders because its pretty green.

We saw a lot of deer and 9 point and 12 point hit the ground along with a pig. We saw a couple of bucks chasing does, but the majority of them were showing no interest.

Lot of deer moving in Lee county, haven’t seen any chasing but younger bucks are trailing doe. FIL shot several pigs and one coyote, I shot a spike so all in all it’s been good. Hunting now and one more hunt in the morning before going back to work Tuesday. We have several mature bucks that haven’t showed but it’s a long season and we don’t have much hunting pressure around us so I will just be patient.

We had lots of deer at our place. I think I saw 15 different bucks. Kinda checking does but not “chasing”

I'm hunting in Camp County and nothing was moving. I saw one little spike over the weekend. No other deer.

I hunted a new place this weekend in Houston County so I don't have past experience to pull from. Still, it didn't seem like I heard as many shots I would expect for an opening weekend, and very few heard Saturday evening. I could count on one hand the number I heard this (Sunday) morning.

Same for me. Very little shooting heard. Weather conditions were excellent...I was expecting much more.

I saw a number of bucks both morning and evening...but not what I was looking for. Passed on a very tall racked 8 point with long tines and main beams that nearly touched in the middle...because it was young, looked to be a 3.5-4.5 deer. Still lots of season left. Not to worry.

Did shoot big Sow, so always good to get another pig off the place.

He won twice. He was on our neighbor's property. I texted my neighbor to let him know he had a big buck headed towards his stand. He said he was in front of the fireplace enjoying the company of his Grandson.

I hunted in the Sam Houston National Forest, and I saw a doe and two non-reg bucks on Saturday. Today, I saw a doe being chased by ‘The Big One’. He stopped behind cover about 50 yards never seeing me, but he must have smelled me since he gave me a snort before high-tailing out of there. I stalked after him, but I never saw or heard him again.

Yall must have lucked into some perfect rain? Our place near Hebronville is pretty crispy looking and the drive down and back from SA I didn't see much of anything that looked in great shape.

Buddy down the road from you in Stephen's saw some good bucks this weekend. One late morning standing at feeder when they went to check a camera.

Also hunting Houston County for the first time and didn't hear as many shots as expected nor see much. Landowner across the way shot a small buck. Saw one legal buck at the feeder near the house and one very tall horned young buck that is not wide enough. Maybe better luck next weekend.

I and others fear those are becoming too common in East Texas where all hunters can do is leave them to breed.

Soon tall racked wide eared deer will dominate East Texas.
laugh

Would be nice to have something besides width being the only measurement for a legal buck.

IMO, a silver bullet that hunters could use to easily identify a buck its age would make all the groups happy. Unfortunately, it doesn't exist.

It does make you wonder. I've got 3 that have good tine length, good main beams, but won't make the minimum spread. Albeit...all are young deer still, but I have my doubts they will ever get much wider.

I went to Robertson county for the opener of rifle. I saw more deer in bow season filling feeders than opening day. I think everyone of my neighbors shot something, sounded like a war zone. I saw a few but nothing to put on the ground. I'm headed south Thursday to do a little doe management to hold me over to December.

Saw a huge 9pt that my brother wants to shoot on saturday evening. Brother watched a young 10pt and an older, narrow 8pt. I watched a young 8pt this morning with his nose to the ground. No doe were seen. Typical for us.
