I’m a big fan, although biased.

Current stable is a W.W. Greener boxlock 12 bore with Damascus barrels, and a Purdey bar-in-wood 12 bore hammergun with nitro steel barrels. I’m lights out with the greener, fits me perfectly and great handling.

I will always have a SxS. My favorite quail gun is an Ithaca 200 E featherweight. 25 inch barrels chambered in skeet/skeet.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

Had a Ugartechea many (over 40) years ago, it was nice but nothing special. Would love to have a nice little 28 guage for the bird patch, my current 28 O/U is too light.

Die-hard traditionalist (when it comes to firearms anyway) that I am, it's no surprise that I'm a big SxS fan.

There are four around here these days, but the ones that get the most use are my Arrieta sidelock 12 bore and a Winchester 23 boxlock 28.

I shot 'em all back when I was competing, and I know (and love) the single sighting plane of the O/U and I've got a real soft spot for pumps. For upland birds, give me a sweet swinging side by each and every time!

Mark

I'd like to have one with hammers. Just because I've seen lots of Westerns.

I have a 20 gauge Lefever Nitro Express made in 1926. It's not fancy, wasn't expensive, and has its fair share of dings and dents. I love it though. Its light and fits me well. I'd like something with more open chokes for woodcock though.

I grew up hunting with a Montgomery Ward 16 gauge SxS. It looked ancient to me. Was stolen in 1978 when I was in college. I still miss it. If I had the coin I’d get a Grulla or AyA SxS 16 gauge.

The first thing I started hunting as a kid was quail. I used an old Ted Williams 20 gauge pump but I always loved it when the different farmers and ranchers would pull out their old side by side and come hunting with us. Made me always want a side by side.

I love shooting a SXS.

Stoeger makes some good ones.

I will buy another one sometime in the future

And the 1883 Purdey. I wasn't able to use this gun on this particular hunt due to needing to replace a barrel(now complete)but couldn't pass up the photo op.

Like any other gun type, not all SxS's are created equal. But if you have no desire to shoot steel shot there are great deals to be had on FINE vintage SxS's for under $1500. You really need to know what youre looking at though. In that price id personally look at Belgian, German/Austrian, or French doubles. Some JP Sauer's are a fine buy.

For some reason, I would really like to see a picture of this double. Could you post a pic, Jerry?
