Plenty of doe in the hay field, and here come two bucks, walking together. Didn’t show much interest in the ladies, but they did knock heads with each other a little. We must be right on the edge of the rut here.

Saw a buck yesterday evening just north of New Braunfels with his nose so far up a doe’s rear end, she looked like a hat. He was pushing her hard.

This was a shot of this guy last year in my back yard in the Canyon Lake area. He has a point or two more this year, but his antlers are similar in size. I wish I had my camera ready when he was here chasing does today through my backyard. After he left, 3 smaller bucks came through. Also, he is just mean looking without a black muzzle stripe. Retired!

Bucks are 'moving' and on the 'search' here (Deep East Texas). Just about every Buck I have on camera (video) is checking the does...but I've not yet seen any that are actively chasing and none with the nose to the ground following a scent trail. But we're getting close. Everyone I've talked to here relates the same.
One thing in particular in our favor is the cooler weather. The 'opener' this year is the coolest one we've had in years.

We have a lot at 'Rocky creek ranch' near Canyon lake. I've seen some nice bucks in the neighborhood. Great pic BTW.
Life is too short, as is. Don't chance it. Don't text and drive.

Last weekend for youth opener I saw multiple bucks with does all around me. The bucks were pushing the does some, but nothing happening yet. It's certainly pre-rut. When it gets into full blown rut, it's obvious and constant chasing with bucks and does out of breath. We are not there yet in Stephens County where I hunt.

I forgot to mention that just when it got almost too dark to see, along came a 6 point with his nose to the ground. He was tracking something, but there had not been a doe on that path all afternoon.
