I drive thru Lubbock twice a year on my way to Idaho. From I27 it looks like the town Hasnt changed since it was built. No new homes or businesses. Original buildings how they must have been built from what I can see.

The deal to me is if I’m there I’m just passing through. The landscape alone would wreak havoc on my mind. (Of course, I’m a piney woods guy so that may have something to do with it.)

Friend of mine went to school there back in the late 60's. You had to drive to Pinkies (i think that was the name) just over the county line to buy beer. Well with tech being there I presume they fixed that after your visit. Never been and no desire to go there.

Not sure what part you drive through but Lubbock has changed alot. I have a bunch of family up there but pretty much only go for funerals. Everytime I'm there I'm amazed at how much its changed / grown. Maybe because I only see it every 10 years or so.
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

Went up there last December for a sandhill crane hunt. Hunt was fun and I respect that the area has tons of migratory birds but no way I could make it up there. No trees, no water, no thanks.

Friend of mine went to school there back in the late 60's. You had to drive to Pinkies (i think that was the name) just over the county line to buy beer. Yep and west of there was dry, we went to the NM state line to a place called the Bloated Goat.

They say that when the first cavalry soldiers came up on the Llano Estacado, the sheer flatness of it scared them crapless. Those cotton fields give me the heebie jeebies, but I know, just like the stink of oil and gas, that's money.

Being raised in east Texas, I couldn’t wait to escape the suffocating trees and humidity and live out west. Yeah it’s flat, but the weather and people make up for it.
We took the boys to their first home game a few weeks back vs okie state, and I couldn’t get over how much things have changed. New freeways hotels, restaurants, housing.. yes, the east side is rough, but that town is booming.
I couldn’t live there forever, but I enjoyed the time I lived there.
On a side note, the hunting can be top notch for dove and waterfowl. I grew up chasing blue bill and wood ducks on Rayburn, so I felt like I won the lottery being able to hunt out there.

No the town is "wet" if you will, the college kids don't know what it's like to have to plan and the adventure that ensued of driving out to the strip.

Sure, it can be difficult to play golf on a spring Sunday afternoon with 40mph winds, sure it rains mud sometimes, but IMO, more good days than bad days.
