tried to buy a gun there Monday, the manager canceled the purchase after filling out the tablet info (it did take me a couple of tries, im not a tablet type of person) wtf? I have a ccl and wasn't loud or rude, my wife even agreed! the manager came across like an [censored], wouldn't tell me why it was canceled? banned for 30 days from purchasing a handgun from any academy. don't think I will be going back for anything from academy. any input?

Took me 2 hours to buy one from them. Not a single customer there either. They don’t have a clue what’s going on yet. Was it the manager with a mullet or the old surfer looking guy?

This sucks to hear. I’m sure they will get the program sorted out.

I doubt many have experience prior to the last couple of weeks. But mix in some experienced employees to get the store running.

I bought a 10/22 from them not to long ago and had to use their crappy tablet system. It was terrible. Took about an hour and a half. I’ll not be buying one from them again. Just as cheap online and can be in and out of my FFL in 10 minutes.

When I retire I’m going to hang around the Academy gun counter for entertainment. If it’s not irate customers trying to buy a gun, it’s their FOS teenage salespeople explaining, for example, how the Mossberg .243 he’s showing will “take down a grizzly no problem”.

Now that is entertaining.

I’m a Chief Technology Officer for the state of Texas with over 16 years of experience. It has nothing to do with knowing how to use an “iPad” which it wasn’t it was laggy POS android tablet and glitchy software.

I like academy for the shoes, ammo, gun cases, ect, but for me it’s worth a little extra to just use one of the local ffl dealers to purchase a firearm. Helps the local guy a little bit and usually can drink a cup of coffee in the shop while shooting the chit. It comfortable, it’s quick, it’s easy, no escort to the front, no chance of some inexperienced ding bat “canceling” my purchase....

Went to the Academy in Waco yesterday. I needed a battery for a feeder (they didn’t have what I needed). I needed some Loktite, and hoped they had it, so went to the guy that mounts and boresights scope for them. He said “I don’t know what that is”. That doesn’t mean I hate them, but it does mean that they won’t be my first choice gear vendor.

Then I went to Lowe’s for the loktite. Couldn’t get anyone to help me. Went to the Customer Service counter and asked the two women where the Loktite was. “What’s Loktite, what’s it do”, was what I heard. While I was jerking out clumps of my remaining hair, a young guy worker came by and said Aisle 6. Whew!

Last gun I bought was from bass pro. Had to do all the junk on a tablet. Before I started the guy told me DO NOT MESS UP if you do we will not be able to sell you the gun today.
