Gonna do the New York At Christmas time thing for the wife. Gonna do all the typical sightseeing things. Any info besides the typical places to eat, or see would be appreciated. If I missed a must see let me know.

On the list

Places to eat

1. The Bronx Arthur Ave. For Italian food, pastries, and deli's
2. Flushing Queens for Chinatown, and all kinds of Chinese food.
3. Pizza joints. Lombardi's and Bleecker Street Pizza
4. Somewhere in the financial district for the hundred dollar grilled cheese sandwich. Dont ask.....

Places to visit.

1. Top of the rock
2. Rockettes Christmas special
3. Dumbo Brooklyn Bridge
4. Statue of Liberty tour
5. Rockefeller Center Christmas tree-lighting ceremony
6. Central park
7. Museum mile
8. Broadway show (need to pick one)
9. Chelsea for the art galleries
10. Harbor cruise
11. Roof top bar
12. Ground zero

Good list.

I have done most of those, but not on one trip.

You are going to be busy.

I went to Columbia one summer. Loved the New York delis Fell in love with a Rockette.

Took the harbor cruise. Might be a little cold around Christmas time.

I easily drove over an extra hundred miles to avoid cities on our trip...

Especially Boston, NYC, and Philly....

Good luck and hope y’all have a great time...

I've taken the NY-NJ water taxis (across Hudson River) many times during Winter. You're already dressed for the climate. They are enclosed. Many are even crudely heated. I'm sure the harbor cruise boats are the same - otherwise they'd miss out on lots of tourist money. They're smarter than Bill. Don't worry about it.

Staten Island Ferry is free and gives you great views of Manhattan skyline and Lady Liberty. Takes about 45 minutes round trip. Cheap tall boys in the terminal you can relax with on the trip. smile

Hop on Hop Off bus was a great way to get around. Buy on the corner from the guys selling it. They will cut you a multi day deal. Guides on the bus are very knowledgeable.

The Boathouse in Central Park. Great food and scenery. John's pizza is also one of our favs.

Agree on the hop on/off buses.

Uber is your friend.

Empire State Building at night.

Brunch is a big deal great place in Central Park if you reserve way ahead of time.

Eataly if you love Italian food.

Yeah Bill I know the weather might prevent us from doing somethings. Typical weather for the first week of December is low in the mid-30s and the highs in the upper 50s. Which I can handle as long as it's not wet.

Keep the suggestions coming. I'm pinning them on my map.

How do you all guys get from LaGuardia to Midtown? I'm thinking about taking the subway anybody do that?

I could never go there. Too many people and I don't do well in crowds. Besides that, no reciprocal CHL which is reason enough for me. Hope you have a good trip though.

Yeah, not my cup of tea either. It's a trade off, my wife wants NYC during Christmas time, and I get to go to Machu Picchu.

We went last year at Christmas. Pick your top choices on your list, with the Christmas crowds no way you will do all of that....

Here's my rules about NYC:

1. Don't go - ever!

But to each his own and hope you have a great time!

You have to get to a subway station. There is not one near LaGuardia. I did it one time (I used to go there all the time to work) via bus to the subway station and it sucked. I did not have luggage or a wife with me.

Car service or taxi is the only way to go. I hope you are flying in at an off time or going in the opposite direction of traffic. Be patient.

This. I'd go with #4,5,6 and the most important being #12.

I would cut some of the list and add another Broadway show or two.

I was pleasantly surprised by New York. I expected a bunch of really rude people. You know, the rude new yorker stereotype. I met two rude people while I was there. They were visiting from California. Go Figure.

Car service to get from the airport to wherever you are going.

I just had to go to Gray's Papaya hot dogs. They were talked up so much in more than one movie. Skip it. They suck.
