Anyone seeing birds in NTX/South Central Oklahoma? I am contemplating heading up to oklahoma right over the border for the opener, however, I am wondering if anyone is seeing good bird numbers. Probably will still end up going, but just curious to see what people are noticing.

I have not seen any birds on the usual ponds A,B or D. No birds yet on lake 1. I have not scouted Lakes 2 or lake 8. I did have the annual group of Canada geese fly over the house last week. They are early by about two weeks. Scouted a new lake (9) yesterday while fishing. heard mallard hens calling and saw 2. I expect they were bread addicts.

I have a feeling we aren't going to see decent bird numbers till after the split.

No birds in NTX, they are all west texas on Bardybucks pond, if you are lucky, he will shoot it out and scatter them.

Ducks all over south Kansas. Mostly teal.

Thought for the day: Ducks were almost hunted to extinction long before camo was invented.

We're starting to freeze up in Wyoming and new ducks are showing up with each cold front. They should be on the way down with colder temps up here. Unfortunately for us, you need an artic front to come through up here. Not ready for that yet.

I'll be there in a little over four weeks. Don't hunt them till I get there.:)

Your starting to freeze up and it just now got below 50 here. It may be 80 later this week.

No worries.

I was just passing through on my way back from Minnesota. Been grouse and woodcock hunting.

I’ve heard about lots of pintail this year. Gadwall and mallards are showing a little late north of us, but starting to move and gain color. Teal are in full force as well as spoonies. Redheads seem to be on the normal flight time and pattern.

Before I was worried, now I'm simply jealous smile

I came back from hunting Saskatchewan Monday. Parts of the Dakotas and Iowa are flooded. driving over 500 miles leaving Canada is flooded. North Dakota farmers did not get soy beans out. Filed corn is under water. A duck paradise. it will take a heavy freeze to chase ducks away from that buffet.

I heard the same thing. I have buddy that travels through Central US with his combine helping farmers harvest. He was telling me about the amount of water and food through middle if US crop that didnt get taken out in time.

We have had some big ducks show up in southeast Louisiana. Nice to see but not getting to excited yet. Last year was rough for many despite decent conditions in the marsh. I use to think I kind of had ducks figured out but I don't these days. Now more than ever "got to go to know' and each hunt has different results. I will get my 20 to 25 hunts in this season no matter the outcomes. We always shoot something.

Fortunately we have the luxury of going catch some speckled trout and or redfish from our hunting camp in the afternoons.

I live and hunt in north Texas near the Hagerman Wildlife Refuge. Have been scouting the area for a couple weeks now. It's looking pretty shabby so far unless you are looking to limit out on coot. Seeing just a handful of mallard and spoonies so far. Canda geese are looking good though.

You gotta shoot the coots, or as we call them here pouldeau. I have friends that tell me they don't want me to bring them clean ducks rather bring them coots to slow cook in a crock pot. They are mighty fine tasting.

I have a group of mallards on tank A this morning. Not the seasonal 15-20 that show up in mid November but a smaller group, maybe 5-7. No birds yet on tanks B, C or D, which is backwards as they usually show up on those tanks first. This is in North Texas and, yes, I'm a certified region namer!
