This guy's hanging around ranch headquarters. The grasshoppers were everywhere the other day; he should be very happy.

Is "Paesano" really the proper Tex-Mex term for them? A woman in Accounting told me it was, years ago, but I never really trusted her. cool

It is! Haven’t seen one around my house for a few years, dang feral cats. Listen closely, then mimick it’s call. It will answer back. They used to roost on top of my house.

Yeah, I "purred" at this one. He, or she, actually seemed to calm down and settle in.

Keep him around. They kill rattlesnakes. Toss him some cheese crackers. They can become very trusting and fun to have around.

We have a few of them in East Texas that I see from time to time. Probably more than I think.
The spelling is actually "Paisano" but you got way closer to the spelling than I would have.

We have 2 that hang around our place. I keep hoping to see baby roadrunners but I haven't seen any yet. I guess the 2 we have are the same sex.

I love seeing them. I had one cross in front of me on the same country road several times a month. It was like he was hiding in the bushes and waiting for me to come around the corner.

Cool birds and an apex predator. Love the fact they eat a lot of undesirable things, wish they would leave the lizards especially Horny Toads alone.

I had one as a pet when I was a kid. Took it out of a nest before it was big enough to leave by itself. Fed it grasshoppers. Got full grown. Was very friendly and would follow me around everywhere. One day I was sitting on the front steps to the house and it was sitting beside me. My Sister came running out of the house and stepped right in the middle of it and killed it. True story. Reason I keep referring to it as it I did not know what sex it was. But its name was Zorro

We had one at the old camp house. It showed up one day and just hung around. Was very social, would walk right up to you, would jump in my truck if I left the door open. We fed it Vienna sausages and hot dog weenies.

I would say we had it for over 2 years before it moved on to greener pastures, or went to roadrunner heaven.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Cool birds to have around. Haven't seen one around the house in a few years.

We have one that hangs around the skinning rack. He's a scrap eatin' son-of-a-gun. Will almost take it from your hand.

Good bird to have around. I believe "Paisano" is the Spanish word for them.

They can get really gentle around houses or camps. This one showed up at a place I hunt in South Texas. This was on a very wet and cold day in mid Oct. At times he was 5-7' from me. I had to let him get a little farther away to takes these pics. If the barn doors were open he would walk around inside the barn. He was always around the deer cleaning area.

They're fun to watch eat a small mammal. They'll slam it on the ground to break its bones so they can eat it easier.
