I headed up to NW Colorado near Kremmling to hunt with a good friend of mine who lives there. The weather was rough, we had a few nice days, a few days with sleet, and a few days with thick snow. I managed this fat mulie 3x2 who probably dressed around 200lbs. On the last day, we spotted this bull at the top of a mountain and started our ascent. It was a rough climb in 7-8" of snow. We went up about 1000' which took (me) about 45mins. The temp at the bottom was 9 degrees so no telling what it was at the top. When I finally arrived my buddy had the bull spotted and dialed in at 520 yards. As I got behind the rifle, I instinctively took off my gloves in order to fire. My buddy starts telling me to put them back on and I soon found out why. In about 30 seconds my hands were purple and I could not move my fingers! Thank goodness he had hand warmers because I could not put the gloves back on. Anyhow, the bull is behind trees and when I have an opening, I fire. The first shot missed and he tells me to aim left. ( Very windy up there) . I quickly reload and aim at the bull's stomach and fire. This time the bull lurches forward and disappears. My buddy tells me that he saw the vapor trail and it looked like a good hit. We set out hiking to where the bull was and my buddy finds him 20 yards from where he was standing. It was a good double lung shot and the 7mm Mag did great. We then start the long process of quartering him up and getting off the mountain. It took three of us 6 hours. The scary part was when my boots became untied and filled with snow. Thankfully the 400g Thinsulate did its job and the snow melted quickly. I still had cold and wet feet but I guess the trapped body heat actually stayed trapped. It was also scary and dangerous going over all that snow covered deadfall.....we are lucky no one broke a leg. All in all it was a great trip and one that I will always remember. I have been hunting in Colorado 5 years now, and the hunts don't always turn [Linked Image]

Awesome!! 2nd season is TOUGH in CO, often single digit success rates so I'd say you beat the odds in a big way!

Awesome rob, both well deserved and hard earned. Especially the elk. I'm at hotel in new Mexico now pass closed into Colorado. Headed tomorrow to glade park unit 40. Used 20 points to draw 3rd season elk tag. Hopefully I'll be as lucky as you. Will let you know. Great animals

Good luck Buddy! Be careful driving, the weather up there is getting worse. I hope you get a monster!

Congrats Rob!!! Beautiful animals!!

And BTW....Tillie is doing fantastic!! Had her compete last week for her AKC Senior Hunter....was putting in a great run and then hit barbed wire fence and had to withdraw....10 stitches. She is recovering just fine. Turning into a phenomenal bird dog!! Thanks again!
