I have two females (grown women) who both have no experience in operating or using handguns. Both need to able to protect themselves, want their own handguns, and need to know how to use them. I could teach the basics, but I'd rather they go through some formal training and not learn any bad habits I may have. Not wanting CHL or anything, just basic handgun function, safety, and shooting instruction.
Preferably East side of Dallas, out to Canton/Tyler area.
Thanks, Jay

It’s been about 3 or 4 years since I went thru everything, so things might have changed. That being said, I had to become a certified pistol instructor (I chose the NRA’s course) before I could take and qualify to be a State of Texas LTC Instructor. So any LTC Instructor in your area should also be able to give classes on basic pistol. Maybe someone will chime in with an Instructor in your area they really liked. Everyone is pretty much teaching Isosceles now, and believe it or not, women who are new to it seem to do better than men.

If they are willing to come to Austin, I enjoy teaching the basics and they will be safe, have solid fundamentals, and learn more than just standing still staring at paper for slow fire shooting. I supply pistols and ammo for them to try a sample of the most popular pistols, starting with .22, .380, and 9mm M&P and Glocks. Then they can make an informed decision on what they like. I am certified by NRA and a LTC instructor, but the training and certification standard that is dramatically more meaningful is the instructor training, testing, and certification by Tom Givens. I continue to actively train and just spent two days in active shooter response training last week. Lessons occur at the Austin Rifle Club with a dedicated instructor range they will have to themselves. I seem to mostly train women, usually older who have experienced some event which prompted them to seek instruction. I treat them like I would want someone to treat my wife. So far 100% satisfied students. https://gunculture2point0.wordpress...or-development-and-certification-course/

Good to know Jeffbird as I run into people that need training.
I am good friends with John Daub and Karl Rhen at KRTraining and they speak so highly of the Tom Givens classes they have attended. I have taken several classes with them.
I got invited to go to a week long class with Bill Wilson and Ken Hackathorn years ago, just couldn’t do it, still regret it.

Go with Jeffbird. He’s great. The wife and I really enjoyed our time shooting with him. He’s a pretty dang good shot, as you might imagine. And he cleaned up some minor bad habits I had in shooting a semi.

Teach them the basics and then take them to an IDPA match or 10.

We were on the deck of the lodge on our lease talking with the guy who does training there along with my main hunting buddy who is in the APD the day of the Sulfer Springs shooting. They were talking about how the response practices have changed and we heard sirens going down the highway about a 1/2 mile away.. later on that day we heard what happened. very surreal

Contact Ed Waynick or Roy Plumlee (gunplay.us). They have basic pistol, NRA cert, and CHL classes at the Terrell Rifle and Pistol Club just north of Terrell. Ed's landline number is 9729794209 (preferred) his cell number is 9722260403.

I have a good friend that is a NRA Certified pistol instructor that works at B Tactical in Caddo Mills and teaches at a private range just East of Canton (Tactical and Defense of Texas) Jeff Delaney-Delaney Firearms Training 972-415-5874. I believe he now has his LTC instructor license. I really like the range near Canton, they have had several classes for our church members. Tell him Randy sent you! (Maybe he will not charge you more. )
