I have never seen one of the walking tables as they were using benches in the early 70's at the Wolf Hunter's Meet. I think that all registries have gone to bench shows and then move your dog around the ring to show how it travels. In the old days, quite a few of the dog handlers would dress in coat and tie when showing their dog.
My Grandfather had a dog by the name of Tulsa that won the hunt and also won the bench show at the South Texas Wolf Hunters Meet, which is a very rare occurrence. Tulsa had the classic bugle mouth and Walt Disney came to Cotulla to record him running a coyote. The recording was used in the movie, "Voice of Bugle Anne". Many of the old timers that have been gone for years, told me that Tulsa was one of the greatest hounds of that time but was never able to pass the "bugle mouth" to his offspring.
Adios,
gary

he bred dawson stride, arguably the finest fox hound that ever was. ran itself to death
on a fox if i remember right.

not many deer if any in east Texas to hunt back in those days. folks ran foxes and coons and possums
with their dogs. showing off your good blooded horses and dogs abilities was pretty important and
would bring a lot of prestige

Thank your for the post guys. My Grandfather was a houndsman. He had Irish Wolfhounds and Greyhound crosses. He ran sight hounds in western Oklahoma in the 1950s for Coyotes. There are no pictures of his hounds or hunting that I know of. I can only look at pictures like these and imagine. Like Deer hunting with hounds here, his kind of hunting was make illegal in OK long ago.

Still legal here (Ontario) for all our big game species and coyotes as well. Most houndsmen in this part of the world are focused on deer, coyote and bear. There are a few areas where it is restricted though in the southern part of the province close to the major urban centers. I have Walkers that i run coyote with.

Something we should all keep in mind, especially those who believe people will always have a right to hunt game animals. Heck, in many states it's still very much a privilege rather than a legal right.
