I'm thinking of putting some of this out in San Saba county for deer. Anyone had experience with this?

If you put it out this year, you will be putting it out from now on. It's addictive to the wt & cows .

I’ve been doing it for years and it works for me. Others here have said that it hasn’t for them.

I put it out twice and according to my TC's the deer walked by it but the hogs tore it up. They ate a fifty pound bag in 2 days and did that twice, no more for me.

Rice bran is high in phosphorus so if your in a phosphorus poor area it should work, acorns are also high in phosphorus and will be preferred, you might have to mix the bran with corn or protein to get them started.

only time it works for us in Bosque is during the rut.... The bucks roll in that chit!! we cut the top open and make a 8 to 10 ft bag wide stripe.. Put a camera and the bucks come by every few hrs and eat it....

I had no luck with it. Our deer could have cared less.

Would reconsider if you have cows. I tried it once...spent the next weekend repairing feeders and the pen.

I bought some at Walmart this summer when I saw they were carrying it down here. I put it out on two of my places inside the feed pens and one place without a feed pen. I mixed corn with it and nothing touched....no deer, turkey or hogs. I had cams on it just to see. Birds scattered the corn and ate it.

My neighbor uses it and he showed me pics yesterday 2 coyotes eating it. They come regular.

Two kinds of rice bran — stabilized and unstabilized. Unstabilized is powdery and goes rancid very quickly when it gets wet from rain or even from dew and deer won’t touch it. Stabilized is more granular and also comes in pellets (eg, Manna Pro brand). Stabilized doesn’t go rancid as quick. I’ve had deer devour both kinds right away and other times it has sat untouched for weeks.

Rice bran is a major ingredient in many of the off the shelf products. You can try mixing salt, coolaid, peanut butter, corn, etc. Lots of recipes on the interweb. Trial and error will tell you what your deer prefer.
