Looking for some of y'all loads for the .358 Winchester. I'm looking to use the Barnes 200 grain TTSX bullet and/or Hornady 200 grain FTX and/or spire point. My rifle is a rebored 20" barrel Savage hog hunter. I'm wondering if I can get to 2600 FPS with these bullets, barrel length and maintain accuracy. Right now with the mild factory Hornady 200 grain spire points I am sub MOA. Thank y'all in advance for the feedback.

Try this forum and thread. 2600 fps is very reasonable, I can easily get that with a 200 grain in my 338 Federal so the 358 Win should be easier.

With the 20" barrel, I really doubt you will see 2600 FPS. Most data with the 358 Win seems to be generated with 26" barrels.

I have a Rem 600 chambered in 35 Rem. I push it hard, at 358 Win pressures and have been using the Hornady bullets. The 358 has a 5-grain powder advantage on my cartridge, but I still think barrel length might be a killer. Many of the upper loads for the 358, Hodgdon's, are compressed loads of around 122% of the usable case capacity. With the short case neck, proportionately no different than my case neck, the powder charge is near the mouth. Honestly, I don't know how they seat the bullets. What I see at the bench with this level of compression is variations in cartridge OAL. I believe it is from the lack of neck tension from the short case neck.

I've used near a dozen different powders with the Hornady bullet and have found that the best accuracy has happened to occur around the 100% case fill (with data that supports it). In my case, the 35 Rem at 358 Win pressure levels and the 18" barrel, velocities have run 2300 ~ 2325 FPS. I suspect with the extra case capacity of the actual 358 Win and 2" more barrel, you will see about 100 ~ 125 FPS more with the same bullets. I read through the referenced 25CF topic and it supports the same.

I hope you will post your results. Is your rifle a JES rebore/rechamber? I pondered those he had on GB. A one point I had briefly pondered rechambering it to 358 Win, but the rifle in its present form is too valuable to consider. Here is my 600, it is a whitetail and hog killer...

JES did the rebore. I too shoot and reload 35 Remington. Have a pre safety Marlin 336, Remington model 8 and a 141 in 35 Remington. Ranch dog do you mind sending me your load data for your 35 Remington?

Not at all, I will PM you the data this afternoon. Please don't use the Rem 600 in the 336, 8, or 141. I have data for the non-bolt 35 Rem, I use the Speer 180-grain FP. I also have cast bullet data for both groups of rifles.

Not sure about 2600 fps but I got 2500 fps using the 200 gr. Hornady and IMR 3031. Start a 43.0 grains and work up. Powder compression is not a big deal with this powder. Unlike the issues I had with Win 748 pushing bullets back out of the case. Case neck tension can be an issue also with some Winchester factory brass being thin in the necks, I used necked up Federal 308 brass with perfect satisfaction. I noticed Hodgen has no starting load and their Max is one grain higher than the where I ended up. Good luck.
