Let’s be honest, their schedule is comparable to UCF of the last couple years.
If they beat Memphis, Navy, Tulane and go undefeated. I predict they get a new year 6 bid to Cotton Bowl. I have seen predictions of SMU vs Wisconsin.
Would love to see them put that program on the map.

While I normally say going undefeated means going to the playoff, I think there will be 3 or more power 5 undefeated teams this year. Then you add the one loss champions such as OU/Baylor, Oregon, possibly Florida or Georgia, you could even have a one loss non champ LSU thrown in there is they lose to bama or vice versa.....this season is gonna end whacky and make the serious case for an 8 team playoff. Which I love. But we only have 4 going this year.
If SMU stays undefeated, they will not be in the cfp, mainly due to their competition being subpar compared to other teams. Would like to see them go to a good bowl game, beat a good team, then repeat the magic before any persuasions are made to the committee.

Yes, period. First thing you need to do to get into the playoffs is go undefeated. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

Clemson’s schedule ain’t much tougher than SMU’s.
But, you can’t leave out a 1 loss Alabama, Ohio State or LSU, unless that loss was to an unranked. Which eliminated OU.
Baylor could be the team to watch.

Yes, but the difference is Clemson has shown they can hang with the big boys. Can SMU? Who is gonna be their best win, if they go undefeated? Did they even play a power 5 opponent worth any mettle at all?
Not trying to knock on SMU, I am super happy they are doing well, but who have they played?
Just like Minnesota, they are doing great for themselves, but when you win over SDSU by 7....you might not be able to hang with the big boys. Only difference is Minnesota will end up playing someone, and not finishing the season with Memphis, navy and Tulane

Undefeated means they should be in the playoffs..... period. I agree. Need to expand to 8. Must win conference championship game to be eligible. Power 5 automatic bids, three at large. They will still screw it up by putting three power five teams in as at large bids, but... Why else are teams like UCF, SMU, etc playing I’d they're not eligible to make the playoffs? (In theory they are eligible, but in practice they’re not. It’s BS.)

I’m confinced it’s semi fixed.
About 15 major programs have an overwhelming huge edge into getting into the final 4.
It’s a pretty exclusive group
They’d take a 3 loss Clemson over a undefeated SMU or Baylor
Everyone would get pissed and they just do it again next time

I would like a 10-12 game regular season then a 32 team playoff. More football, NCAA gets their money, and at the end of the year we have a TRUE champion.

Point taken, but the reason Clemson even came up is because the post above mine said clemsons schedule was weak. And whoever said a 3 loss Clemson gets in is on crack. I am sure it was a facetious statement but I really do think the committee does a fairly good job. Not perfect, but with only 4 possibles it isn’t going to be perfect. Expand to 8 and then these discussions can go away. Looking forward to that happening

I agree...takes all the BS out of the BCS....I'd be happy with 16....five weeks of playoffs and all the playoff bowl games will mean something....

If smu goes undefeated then they will be the highest ranked non power 5 team and will be guaranteed a New Years 6 bowl.
But there’s no way they are a top 15 team. Watch them play. A&M, Texas, Baylor would beat them. Wisconsin, Iowa, or any team ahead of them in the polls would win big.

New years Six is pretty much the ceiling for non power 5 teams these days.
The way things are looking, SEC will always have 1 team no matter what, As long as Clemson is good, they are going to be based on the last three years pedigree, Ohio State (best team in country IMO) or Big 10 winner should get a auto bid, and if Oklahoma or Oregon/Utah can string together they will get a bid. SEC is looking like they may get two teams this year the way it is shaking out. SMU has too many hurdles for the top 4, let alone there schedule gets alot tougher here this week.
