I went out Wednesday night before the cold front moved through North Texas. Winds got kicked up pretty good and I wasn't seeing much in the way of animals moving around. So I was making my rounds to the my various places to check, pretty much going through the motions without high expectations when I came across this boar feeding on acorns at one of my favorite properties. I like this place because it never gets overgrown. The rancher does a good job of keeping it well grazed without being overgrazed. Also, given that the property is on a slight incline, I can scan nearly the whole property from the barnyard. Spied this one hog to the south of the barnyard and winds were out of the south and blowing up to 20 mph. No way the hog was going to smell or hear me coming. Clouds had moved in as well, so it was awfully dark, even for night time. So the hog wasn't apt to see me coming, but even so I used the tree he was feeding under to help hide my approach. Then I set up and waited for the hog to clear the tree. Chad at Custom Reloads of Dallas had loaded up some Berger 6.5 Grendel AR Hybrid OTM for me to try out and that I have used on several hogs already. This was the first time I got bullet recovery, however, the other shots passing through. The bullet seems to come apart fairly spectacularly... Here is the link... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gif_i_8hygM&feature=youtu.beFor some reason, it isn't linking properly to play... [video:youtube] https://youtu.be/Gif_i_8hygM [/video]

People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf

Well done! In conditions like that I like to inch ever so close. Nothing better than getting within 20 yards of a hog feeding. Probably would have been touch though if acorns were in the ground and crunching them would have alerted him.
Love seeing them it go flop.

WInd in your favor, a tree to use for cover while stalking, and a broadside boar. It's really nice when things work out like that. So often they don't … Excellent video, thanks!
