When I bought it, the rings on the Athlon were extra high Burris XTRs and the scope was about 11/16" above the hand guard. Wanted to lower as far as possible to the barrel so I changed them to high rings. Got it so low the flip cap will not fit on the end...I am 1/16" above the guard...too low?

Haha...got files and a grinder! Have to take out about 1/4" of the ring and cap to clear the flat handguard top surface [Gen 2]. Wonder if it will retain it's shape...thought about a soft jewelry bag of sorts to put on the end of the scope. After I ruin the cap I may have to do that. I bet it's closer to 1/32nd open space at the end of the bell.

My Leupold Mark 8 3.5-25 x 56 fits the same way.

I ended up using a camera lens cap with an attached lanyard. Not ideal but it works.
