Getting a favorable amount of rain on your food plot at the right times is always a challenge. Last year it was too much rain too often, while not getting enough seemed to be norm in years prior. This year it seems the rains have come at just the right times and without the repeated flooding we saw last year. And let's not forget the army worms that made many hunters throw in the towel last year.

Let's hope it's a trend that continues through the entire season.

Looks like we got some more rain at our place in East Texas from the radar this morning. I need to check the farming section on Weather.com to see how much rain we got, I bet 1/2 inch but need to confirm.

Would have like to had some earlier than what we did. I checked a two of my plots couple of weeks back and they were doing ok but just starting to come up. Deer were already eating the tops of my peas down long before they could ever make peas.

You are very lucky. It is so dry here the disc won't go 2 inches into the soil.

Yep. Army worms got us last year. This year, it has been too dry to disc as don k said. We finally got rain and got the discs in the ground last week. Planted Saturday. Rain yesterday.

I checked Weather.com, our area got .31. I would have thought more but nothing to sneeze at.

If everything goes good I may get to go check my plots and stands before I hunt the last few days of bow season and first few days of gun season.

Down south in DeWitt County, the food plot potential is sucking. Less than a 1/3 of our average rainfall. It's a big state, there is always a huge difference across it.

Weather has been perfect in Red River County, excited to see what the food plots look like Saturday morning!

I planted the 13th of October. Have had 3 different rains, totaling a little over 2", and I believe it looks like the best stand I have ever had, There are acorns everywhere so, so far the hogs are leaving it alone, and counting this morning I have had 3 frosts, so no army worms either. Looking great in my fields. Will be up in the stand in the morning, looking over one of them, there are so many acorns here in Palo Pinto county, they are not coming to the feeders.

I just thought the hogs weren't getting in my grain.

Hogs hit our two acre food plot by the ranch house every night and I've never seen any rooting ever. They seem to graze just like the deer.
