Just came back from a trip from Fredericksburg, first time actually in Hill Country. Definitely will be going back for multiple reasons, but have to recommend Falling Star retreat outside of town. Great place to relax with friends and family( and see a bunch of deer). Also Hondo's on main is a great time!

We try to schedule a trip during bluebonnet season so we can drive the Willow City Loop.

Ben there a few times. Never had a bad trip. Here's a great book set in Fredericksburg.

I had forgotten how much I enjoy this author's writing, so it was fun to stumble across another of his books. This one is set in Fredericksburg, TX, and the only thing that I might quibble about is he certainly doesn't portray ...

My wife and I go up there about twice a year. Neat little town. I think this coming week end is Market Day and each year they have an old fashioned rendezvous just east of town.

Yeah, I guess it was one of their busiest weekends cause of the trade days?

Market days probably didn't help but that town seems to be busy every weekend no matter what time of the year you visit. That being said, this thread has me wanting to go back, maybe in November

We go there from time to time. The wineries are pretty good, the restaurants are decent, and that pie place a block off Main Street has great pie.

The day after Thanksgiving Main Street looks like a street in Manhattan at rush hour. My family had a place in the area for 50 years; 'said all my goodbyes this last Spring. All things change. It isn't the hill country of way back when. It's becoming an Austin annex. To each his own.

Been running the Harley down there for years, last year was just like you stated. Turned yuppie, bunch of wine and cheese, coffee shops. We hit Bandera and little bars we have found, rode the Sisters. Basically stayed away from Fresicksburg. Damn shame.

Creek, I agree with you and GUTIT, but I also don't plan to go on the weekend.

Born and raised there. It sure has changed. I avoid Main Street and take all of the back streets to get where I'm going. Main Street is way to crowded. One of the greatest places to grow up in though. Everybody knew everybody. The cops took care of us kids as teenagers. Thank God! Plus, they knew all of our parents and all it would take is one phone call to our parents and they knew our punishment would be worse when we got home. Maintaining the family name meant something back then.

Just be careful on Highway 290 where all of the wineries are. Locals call it Wino Alley for good reason. Lots of accidents and fatalities. People have been drinking and are not paying attention to traffic.

Take in the Rock Box. Some of the best live entertainment and performers you can find anywhere. Lot's of good places to eat. Steaks are good at Cross Roads and they have live entertainment. Andy's Diner is where the locals go for home style cooking.

Enjoy your stay. It makes for a great weekend getaway.

Me, I don't go near there on a weekend. I stay safe in the country. Creekrunner is right. It's nuts at Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break. Almost any weekend.

I’ve eaten there a couple of times just to try and figure out what the big deal is. I still haven’t figured it out.

My wife and I went down there last month, but went during the week to avoid the weekend crowd. We had been there several years ago and had gone through the Museum of the Pacific War. At that time they told us they were about to do a large expansion. This trip was to see the expanded museum. We ate at several cafes and restaurants and found most overpriced. Best deal for us was the City Cafe on west Main for breakfast. Biggest homemade biscuits I have ever seen. Looked like a short stack of pancakes.

The one in Llano is good. Excellent Cabrito and burnt ends. The prime rib is meh.

The one in junction is just a little run of the mill bbq place. Lum’s imo is much better
