While out this morning just at daylight, I watched a little 8 pt working really hard to catch a doe. Looks like the rut is fixing to start up.

When we hunted in East Texas we would always see rutting activity around the last week of October with the peak around November 1st.

What county are you in?

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Its already started, I saw two mature bucks with a doe each Friday morning. Not every doe in the country is ready, but no buck in his right mind would have been where they were after sunup if it wasn't for their company! up

I've been seeing bucks chasing for a couple of weeks now. 2 large bucks fighting the other morning. I have a 5 pt that was a nice 8pt but he snapped his right main beam off fighting. A couple more weeks and they'll be full blown running doe.

Should have mentioned where I was. I’m on the Burnet/Llano county line, off of 71.

The rut is close, but not on yet at our place. A nice 6 point came into the yard to visit with 6 does. Some of the does ran around wild like they do, then they quit and everybody ate grass.

The does are giddy and the young bucks are practicing their doe sniffing.

Not sure if moon or rut, but I saw a lot of fresh dead deer on various highways this weekend around Coleman, Brownwood, Dublin, Goldthwaite, etc. At least half were bucks.

^^^^^^^

This agrees with what I have experienced...having lived and hunted in Deep East Texas the last 30 years.

Lots of movement starting the last week of October thru the first 7-10 days of November. Again early December.

I had buck (young), trailing a doe on one of my cell cams at the place I hunt in East Texas. Also few other young bucks that trotted past my cams. My guess last few days of bow season they should start going in East Texas and be active the first three weeks. Not as much the third week based on what I saw last year.

Hunting East Texas is no doubt different for me than Mexico and South Texas, but close to my lake house at Sam Rayburn!!

Thanks, Billy
