Sad to let you guys know we had to put down my Sadie dog this week. Started losing appetite and weight and vet confirmed her kidneys had shut down.
I knew this was going to be a special dog by the time she was a year old, and also knew then that this would be the toughest one to stomach when this time came. There is no doubt that Sadie was the smartest dog I have ever owned, and the most loving companion bird dog I have ever seen. She would sit and let you pet her for hours, nudging your hand if you stopped for even 3 seconds. So many memories, from almost losing her to Addisons disease when she was three and having to build a doggie high chair to gravity feed her while the various specialty vets (the fourth one finally suspected she had a very rare form of Addisons disease which testing confirmed), to various days in the field where she was a "shark in a swimming pool" on poor unsuspecting coveys, to winning the her first NSTRA field trial I ever entered her in and rocking the regions apple cart.

I have never seen a dog that wanted to please her owner so much or handled so well. She was as pretty on point as any dog I have ever hunted with; long time hunting buddy said it well on a hunt near Robert Lee one year when he yelled "Miss America is up here on point again".

Sure all of you have had your "dog of a lifetime", and my family was very blessed that we had Sadie Belle in our lives for nearly 13 years. Going to miss her riding up front with me in the mule in her special spot, but lots and lots of unforgettable memories...keep pinning those birds in dog heaven girl.

Not many get to own one like her. You were lucky and so was she.

I'm truly sorry for your loss. Keep those photos safe and tell tales of her to all who will listen.

She'll be waiting for you when you get there.

Loved her when I saw the first pics you posted of her, even more when I saw her on the ground. She was proud, smart, with class and fire. Lucky to have hunted with her. Lots of birds where she's running now.

Don’t think I can say it any better than that. What a powerful testimony about a great girl. So sorry for your loss.

Hate to hear that

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

Gorgeous girl, and obviously talented and gifted. Excellent pictures. I like to believe she'll be waiting for you...

Thank you gentlemen for the kind words, today a better day than yesterday. After having only males for nearly 40 years, decided losing a loving female companion working dog is about 5x as hard as a blockheaded ole male
