I really like this rifle, but with open sights I have trouble keeping my shots inside a 6" plate at 100 yards. It looks to be factory tapped for a scope rail. The open sight has a gold looking bead but I'm old with old eyes, is there a different ft. sight that would show better? Something like a fluorescence glow to it? My brother-in-law and I hunt the Davy Crockett Nat. Forest so the shots are generally 100yds or less. Or should I put a 4power scope on and call it good?

As much as I hate it I just scoped a Marlin 35 Remington. It is now a solid performer again out past where my deteriorating vision would go. I used a EGW rail then mounted a Leupold FX-2 4x on it. If I had it to do over I would have went with a lower mounting system. Still may.

My lever actions now wear 2-7X32 scopes, eyesight just isn't what it once was. I like the 2-7 for hunting and have used them for years. I hunt some pretty thick spots and the larger field of view comes in handy.
There are other sight that could work perhaps like Truglo or some even just paint the front bead with florescent paint which is the least expensive thing to try
lf the saying "Liar, Liar your pants on fire" were true Mainstream news might be fun to watch

If you opt not to use a magnified optic maybe consider putting on a rail and using a red dot.

I put a XS ghost ring and a fiber optic front on a Win, Trapper, makes old eyes work.

The Weaver 63B is the standard "classic" base used with any Marlin. Of course, Picatinny rails give more options. I'm a levergun nut; I think there is a breeding program in my gun/reloading room. I use the Weaver Classic V series of scopes; 1-3X20 on the short-range cartridges and the 2.-7x32 on the longer-range cartridges. I have a dozen or better lever guns, both Marlin and Winchesters configured with the XS Sight system, scout scope, and ghost ring sights. I use the Weaver Scout on those rifles.
It is important to keep the scope as low as possible over the barrel because the stock comb on most leverguns is cut low. The eye bell size of the scope, rather than the exit bell, is usually the consideration.

Ranch Dog that’s exactly why I don’t like the rail on mine. Although I found a nice leather left handed stock pack that gives perfect alignment, I hate that it covers up nice wood, and takes away from the clean lines and easy function of the lever.

Scope it. My old eyes just cannot deal with open sights any more. My Glenfield 30A wears a 3-9 now and is a solid performer.

have another question, I've decided to do the lower power scope and will be needing a rail or bases. Also decided to add a sling to this rifle, purchased a decent sling, swivels and mounts for such. Frt. mtg was easy, a clamp style around the magazine tube. The rear swivel will need to be drilled to screw stud in. I've never done this so I'm asking drill bit size and location to mount the swivel. Like so far forward of butt plate?

I put Leupold 3-9 scopes on mine. Most shots are 90-110 yards and on 6 power.
God bless John Wayne!

I have a .357 Marlin with an old Redfield 3-9 on it. I love it.

Basscat utube is your friend. Any instructions with the swivel package?

No instructions, we're guys heck we don't need instructions! I just checked my other rifles and went with the average. Worked out just fine. Picked up a weaver 63B rail and will be mounting and bore sight after dinner.
