Did you follow in your parents footsteps as far as your career? Would you want your kids to follow in yours?

I absolutely do not want my son to follow my footsteps into police work. It has genuinely changed for the worse and it will only continue that direction.

Did you follow your parents in your career choice?

My Dad was a 3rd generation LEO and was emphatic that I didn't choose that path, he felt the same way as you about it.

I voted a hell no. Doesn't change things. Both sons became cops anyway. When you're early 20's you know everything. Don't listen to the old man.

My dad was a cotton farmer. No way.

I chose yes, as I want him to be self employed.

My dad retired as a Major in the Army, lets just say based on his temperament it was not encouraging to want to join.
Although me and a great friend did go down to the Airforce recruiting office and told them if they guaranteed that we would be jet fighter pilots we would join flag Lets just say we did not end up joining rofl

My kiddos are on a great path totally different than mine thank God! Son is in the Navy and loving it, daughter is doing great in college up

My was a drunk, thieving, hell raising dead beat till the law finally locked him with a felony for several years. I decided not to follow the family trade. Slightly improved in construction, kept the beer drinking and hell raising part-time once I had kids I retired from those trades. roflmao

I hope my daughters go into a field that gives them satisfaction. Be it house wife or NASA scientist

No to both. I do not want my sons going into law enforcement and they have enough sense not to.

My dad was a drug dealer.... So of course I followed in his footsteps and became a street pharmacist.

Lol just kidding, not about him being a drug dealer, but about following his footsteps. I couldn’t be any more different than him.

Kind of but not exactly. Dad was in the Marines during the Korean War and then had a long career with SW Bell.
I was in the Air Force and now enjoying a great career in Network & Information Security with a fortune 2 company. So, we were both in the military and then telecom type careers.

My son wanted to go into the Air Force but due to migraines he can’t. So now he works for Apple and wants to go into IT Security as well.
My daughter is in the last year of an education degree and wants to be an elementary math teacher.

Followed both my father and grandfather into a family Oriental Rug business. In Dallas beginning in 1934. Knew from childhood that’s what I wanted to do.

Long line of law enforcement on both sides of my family, but it ended with me. No way I’d have the patience for that job. I chose a different path in oil & gas, and now thinking about starting a new career as a male escort.

After Dad got out of the service he got an EE with a masters in metallurgy and went to work for TI. He was there for 30 yrs. Too much math for me. I like to be around people and have been in sales of some sort since high school/college. To me, healthcare is where it’s at and something that will always be there. My daughter 14 wants to become an OB/GYN and deliver baby’s, and my son 11 wants to be an anesthesiologist. I didn’t even think about these things when I was their age.

the male parental unit was a drunken geologist with a bad attitude toward me. went to a lot of wells with him as a kid and when I got out of the navy hired on as a derick hand (in name only) that lasted till the tear down, rig up was done. went into construction after that and never looked back.

Dad is an appraiser. Im an appraiser. Brother is an appraiser. We don't work together in any capacity though. It pays the bills sometimes better than others (fee-split) when the getting is good its good, but sometimes its slow.

I personally do not love the job and find myself continually relying on others(buyers/sellers/brokers) willingness to confirm sales prices and share information. Many people don't like to tell others what they do with their millions, while some understand the process and willingly share. I wound up in it because I didn't know what I wanted to do. I think my children could do better in other avenues.

If my stepson wanted to work for the FD, I would help him do it. My daughters do the same thing? Absolutely not!

My brother works for our dad. I do not. I answered yes to the second question, but only because I wouldn’t mind if they went into sales, not because I necessarily want them to.

My dad was an electrician at a steel forge and my mom worked for Shell as an operator and then environmental specialist. I went to TAMU on a scholastic ride for engineering. I was not ready for TAMU's engineering program and dropped out second semester. Got a BS degree at U of H. I fought going into plant work and tended bar for about 6 years after graduating. I got tired of dealing with drunks so I started a 2 year program for Process Technology and starting applying with O&G companies.
I'm basically doing what my mom and brother do. I make a great living, have awesome benefits and a pension. If my kids want to do this I will support it.
My wife and I are trying to get our real estate investing to surpass our income from employment and have something for our kids to do so that they can be financially independent.

My dad was Air Force got out and worked most of his life in a factory. I was Army got out and used my GI Bill benefits to get a degree then was an Insurance Agent. My daughter got a ROTC Scholarship and branched Field Artillery. She wasn't the happiest so when the opportunity came to go Commissioned Officer to CID Warrant Officer she took it and is now a career agent and happy.

My dad sold industrial adhesives, the glue that sticks layers of chip bags and other film to consumer packaging together. He did well, traveled a lot for work, gave us a good life, scheduled his travel so he could coach our sports teams and take us hunting and fishing. My brother is in sales and excels no matter what he's selling. I started in advertising then made my way to sales, am now a commercial real estate broker, but I'm constantly selling myself and my company. So, sort of followed my dad.

My son is 8, daughter is 6. Son has told my boss that he wants to work here when he's old enough, we'll see if he can make 100 cold calls per day with the same smile and energy on his last as he does on his first, then come back for day 2.

Daughter may end up being an Olympic gymnast but she already has the ability to be persuasive to anybody and everybody so I'm sure she will end up in some sort of sales role.

My dad was a rancher at first, then became a salesman for USS, United States Steel. That's what killed him, mesothelioma.

So yes I did kinda, worked on a ranch for about 4 years when I was young, then ran a business for 25 years and now I am a Regional Sales Manager.
