Took Luke to the dog park close to the house and at first it was business as usual, three other dogs all of them getting along great. Then this Tahoe pulls up windows down and all you can see is big dog heads sticking out of every window. They unload 4 big dogs 3 of them are some sort of malamutes or husky's with big fury coats and then this huge Shepherd comes out eeks333

Now Luke is a good size dog that is a little bit over a 100 lbs but look how small he looks next to this European King Shepherd, the lady said he was 1.4 years old weighs 129 lbs now and will gain another 20- 30 lbs.
At first everything was cool but for some reason they got right up in Luke face and side of his head no tail wagging just what appeared to be a stare down, Guess Luke decide it was time to back them up and laid into one of them for a few seconds, fortunately they all backed off for a moment,. They slowly started coming back at Luke and I knew it was time to go.

Back on that King Shepherd what a Magnificent animal.

Dogs live in a world of hierarchy. The must know where they reside and they do this in many way. A lot is posturing and asserting dominance when they feel they deserve to be on top.

It is fascinating to watch it unfold but they can seriously hurt each other if you are not there to read the signs leading up to aggression and redirect before it gets to that point.

Dog owners are often the same way.

And 50 pound Blue Heelers think they're 150 pound wolves.

My "Daisy" (R.I.P.) ruled the roost, even though she was the smallest dog.

Dog parks are the dumbest idea ever.

I love dogs for the most part, just not pits and not dogs that don't belong on my property and are making a nuisance of themselves.

My dog is a loaner for sure, she would either go into shock or stroke out barking growling and trying to kill anything in sight if I took her to a dog park.

I don't disagree.

Well said. Too many owners don’t know the signs or don’t care. There is a time where letting the dogs figure it out on their own in a situation like that needs to end. We stopped going to dog parks partially for that reason.

Had a GP growing up. Love the breed and their natural protective but calm demeanor.

In FloMo, you have to be careful that your dog doesn’t eat someone’s stash..

My dog is deathly afraid of Thunder / Lighting / Guns / Fireworks and is often referred to as a 'house cat' due to his demeanor but get him in a dog park and it turns into a cage fight

Luke is a social butterfly, every time we see another dog while we are out for a walk he starts moaning wanting to go check the other dog out, he typically does not play with them but likes to be around them.
About two months ago at a different dog park up by Frankford and the Toll road I no sooner let him off the leash and a much smaller dog came running at him barking viciously and baring teeth, Luke just stayed there calmly and did nothing, the other dog stopped about 5 feet away turned around and went back, everything was cool after that.

Now the one thing Luke hates is Coyotes, we have crossed paths on two separate occasions and he goes nuts wanting to go after them?

My Pyrenees Sally is the most gentle and loving dog I've had. All she wants is some attention. She guards her goats all night and sleeps all day. And, she is a snake detector. Her "snake bark" is very distinctive, leading to the death of 4 rattlesnakes this year so far (I shot the snakes, the dog hangs just outside snakebite range and barks.)

Past performance is the best predictor of future behavior.

Lost "Hopper" a 145 pound Big Un a couple years ago. Dane and Boxer cross. Sweetest Dog I've ever owned. Didn't think he was a dog. Paid no attention to another dog. 16 years old when He passed. Still miss him. The 6 year old Pit Bull guy we adopted as a Pup and raised with Hopper took after the Old Man, Wouldn't bite a biscuit.

My GP Sabra had very distinctive barks for certain things as well. You could definitely tell if she was barking at a human or an animal.

tail wagging does not mean a dog is calm or okay, can be the exact opposite

I’ve seen that too. Sometimes it’s the size of the fight in the dog not the size of the dog in the fight.

I usually visit dog parks late at night when no one is there. That way I don't have any problems. Although some one told me one time that Parvovirus is out there so that keeps me from going most of the time. But I do like to walk them and if they brake heel they are reminded, even if other dogs are in the area. I'm the Alpha Dog.

My vet said the same thing about parvo being present and was told not to take the pup up to one until they had been through all the shots and were older.

Dog parks and PetsMart are good places to find parvo...

My vet told me that

I take my dogs to Tractor Supply occasionally just because I rarely see other dogs in there
