It seems like most of the commercial imagery places have really killed their resolution here recently, any reason why that is? Privacy concerns?

Not really sure. Would have to look into that a bit.

If you happen to hear of something, keep me in mind. I waited a couple years for Google to update the view at the lease, and when they finally did, the resolution went way way down. Same thing with bing and terraserver. Thought it was due to privacy, or maybe to drive more traffic to their pay for resolution sites.

For our lease, I have used google earth and a Garmin GPS to map out all of our main roads/trails, blinds, feeders, food plots, and other key info (bridges, etc). The printed map on the wall of the camphouse really helps keep track where everyone goes to hunt.

One thing that really helped us is that I was able to download a map of all of the rivers and streams using the EPA GPS maps. I over-layed it in google earth and then copied the main ones onto our lease map. Really helps to see where all the water is coming and going versus what you see on a trail or field.

Other uses we have for it:
1. Really helps when we have guests or family members out to the lease - we can give them printed maps to find their way.
2. Prior to a work weekend, we do a drive around, making notes and GPS mark known issues, repairs, etc. Helps keep work weekends organized. Also makes to do lists easier when you can map them as well.
3. Planning sessions for new blinds, and feeders - as all of you have mentioned.
4. Food plot planning
5. When we run trail camera surveys, we can GPS mark all the locations and add them to the map - makes sure we dont forget where we put them all.

I use it to find sandhill crane roosting ponds.

On the downside, I understand some taxing districts use it for tax appraisals. I know of an instance where a property owner had a old house that was literally collapsing on itself get appraised for roughly $40,000. The appraisers were simply looking at the tin roof and size of the structure. Needless to say, they dropped it significantly once he showed them a ground-level photo of it.
