We need more laws holding police more accountable for each and every mistake that takes a life or time away from work, less unions to hide their mistake, and outlaw the use of our Armed Forces uniforms as a police uniform (it’s a disgrace to my fallen brethren). Make them think 5 times before unholstering their gun or cuffing you.

Construction jobs are dangerous, power line jobs are dangerous, hell, even McDonald’s jobs are dangerous in downtown Dallas. But you don’t see one them capping an innocent mother I her own home.

If the police screwed up, get em.

But you ask, so I will respond.

This is scary. If the police are searching on my property at 2 a.m. looking for a fugitive, investigating...etc I would hear something outside my home, arm myself and investigate as well. I would stay in my home and look outside for "activity". If a police officer shoots me for protecting my residence then he/she should be held accountable.

But then again, I do not know all of the facts in the case above.

A word, about a state of mind.

Friday, we were about to get out of the Engine on a car wreck. Car wreck was in the intersection of two very large roads. 4 lanes northbound, 4 lanes eastbound where we were. 4 lanes southbound, 4 lanes westbound. Turn lanes added of course. With one fire Engine we cannot block every possibility. As air brakes were popped, and we were about to get out, I said "everybody try not to die". That is the state of mind, in public safety, dealing with humans. Construction is dangerous, lineman jobs are dangerous, convenience store clerk jobs are dangerous because of humans, same as public safety jobs. We would much rather crawl into a house on fire, with 1000° temps than to work a wreck on a major roadway. As many L.E. officers being shot, I can't blame them for having the "try not to die" mentality.

I am not defending the actions of this officer, on this incident. Probably a rookie wound too tight. However, I ask you cut him a little slack.

That’s fair. I don’t think anyone should be hung out to dry or let off, simply because of their status. A fair trial is all I ask for.

Of course she should have. And FWPD should have done a better job of identifying themselves IF they did not, to help avoid this.

The officer made no verbal notice of his presence.

The officer was not arrested like a civilian would be.
The children of slain will grow up motherless.
The officer will be charged with murder, tried, convicted, receive a minimal sentence, and a hug.

Pretty much.

The difference here is going to be that the officer was on duty and at the correct address.

Pretty sure that "perceived a threat" wouldn't cut it for a regular citizen who shot a police officer though it probably will be enough to keep this officer from being indicted.

Based on the video above he has no defense. Zero sympathy from me. Should be treated as no different than a normal citizen.

He didn't announce his presence, there was no legitimate threat, and he shot someone in their own home. Basically he was an intruder who murdered someone.

Yeah well folks can post all they want about the dangers of the job - and I get it and I don’t disagree.

But that’s all just misdirection and, at the end of the day, irrelevant in a case like this.

Identify yourself and don’t shoot without identifying your target. The people they are tasked to protect and serve don’t want to die either.

I am just hearing about this so I don't have much info, but what I see so far is someone called the police. They show up. The lady hears something and grabs her gun. The police shoot her.

What would happen if she defended herself and shot the police while standing her ground?

nobody has said she grabbed a gun or had one in her hand.

"When officers then went into the home, police say they found a handgun, but gave no context as to where it was when the shooting happened."

How would she know they were police? They did NOT identify themselves.

If there are intruders on my property and I do NOT know who they are then I will have a gun in hand and prepared to defend myself.

Everyone keep saying she had a gun, but FWPD said they found a gun in the house.

If having a gun in your house is cause to get shot, we are all in danger.

So they "found" she had a gun...so what?

My point exactly. It is not known whether she was actually armed.

How is the home owner supposed to know its an officer if the officer in no way tries to identify himself before sneaking around her house like a burglar? She probably would have been within her rights to shoot him.

She was not armed And the welfare check call did not go to the emergency operator.
