I had been catching this buck on game cameras for four years seeing him only a few times each season. Last season I was able to catch him tending a doe and that was his last mistake.I took off the first week of gun season because that's when I started seeing him on camera in the daylight. The first three days I saw a couple of good bucks but it was not the one I was looking for and on Wednesday evening I caught him chasing a doe in the pouring down rain. He was about 250 yards away and was running so I did not take the shot hoping the doe would bring him closer in the field but no luck. Feeders don't work here because my place has about 40 acres of big hardwoods and the deer will just walk past a feeder. I was thinking about going back to work the next day but I needed to feed cows that morning and work on a few other things. I got done about 11 and I could not stand it any more because I knew he should be with the doe and this was my chase to catch him making a mistake. So I decided to do some slipping around to see if I could catch them in the corner of a field bedded down, plus I decided to take a different route and check my cameras at the same time. I had just checked the second camera and had seen one doe. I was slipping down the edge of a field that was surrounded by big oak trees using there shadows to help cover me. I just came out of a drainage ditch in the field when I caught a movement out of the corner of my eye, I looked up along side the ditch and there stood a doe looking to my right. When I turned to look what she was looking at there he stood trying to get a better look at me but the sun was in his eyes and i was in the shadows. There he was 150 yards away standing in a grown up field and all I had to do was take the shot. But my nerves got the better of me and I could not shoot him free handed so I got on one knee grab my trigger stick and got calmed down. He was looking back at the down but she was not moving and that give me time to take the shot! He bolted, ran and I lost him in the tall grass but I knew that I had made a good shot.

Found him in the field and there he was after 4 years of watching him.

Here he as a 2 year old.
[Linked Image]
He blew up as a three year old.
[Linked Image]
Went down hill as a four year old. Not sure why.
[Linked Image]
Gained back what he lost and added some as a five year old and I couldn't wait any longer!

Back from the taxidermy.
I had him scored so who can guess his score? He is the biggest deer that I have taken.

I thought to myself low 160’s before deductions when I saw the first pic... might be wrong but that is what I’ll go with..

Congrats on a nice and well earned buck!

Thanks for posting it up.

19" of deductions seems excessive. Is one of your numbers mis-typed?
