I'm trying to learn more about dove migration with frontal passage. As expected the internet is full of conflicting information. So I ask you, in your experience,

Been selling Dove hunts since 2001...there is NO pattern. I've seen them before a front, I'm seen them after a front, I'm seen them on a front. I've seen them leave before and after a front. I have never seen northern birds before the 3rd weekend of season. I've have seen my place look like Argentina one day and no birds the next. I quit trying to pattern Doves a long time ago, if you guess it right that means you just got lucky. They'll be migrating through, you can bet on that.

^^^ Sound advice. Nobody here has more experience.
An outfitter in our area (Baylor Co), actually lives next to our lease, says around there they show up 3 days ahead of a front. I'll be there Fri to see if he's right.

Stompy I was thinking the samething when I first read this post. One thing for sure, fronts do push birds south, sometimes they push what you have out, hopefully you got new birds coming in. You can rationalize why birds would stay ahead of fronts, why they would fly with the front, and why they fly south after the front. And why some stay put. Which all is true...
Now that teal season is over, I do wanna hunt me some northern dove, it would be the first time in a long time, I normally just hunt dove for the opener, but Tara my dog is telling me she wants to do some more dove hunts..

I'm with Stompy, there's no rhyme or reason to dove migration

The outfitter in our area is right, so he is now one for one. There weren't many on the weekend of Sep 28. They were there this weekend tho. Most I've seen in one field in a few years. This morning was pretty clear that the front pushed them out tho. Hopefully the next one will bring more.

I don't know but it will be cold Sat morning! I like a crisp morning with little to no wind after a blustery day before. Seems blue sky days are best for a field when it calms down.

They still here, if you look hard enough. I have been shooting the carp out of them. Best year ever.

Mmmm, my family was outfitting dove hunts in Throckmorton in 1968, long before everyone and their dog out of Dallas thought they could be outfitters too. Stompy is 100% correct. Dove can't be patterned. A field that is holding birds one day may be a desert the next. I've had luck hunting fronts but it is certainly not a sure bet each and every time. The word "luck" is key.

I went 15 times from sept 1 to 26 prior to my trip to Belgium and shot 15 limits. Some days it took am and pm, but most days within 1 1/2 hour to 2 hours. The hunt was/is still very good that I did not bother to chase teal. Still one more month. #everydamnday

I saw them lined up on the power lines south east of Breckenridge this afternoon. I no longer hunt doves but they were there today.

You never know. This front could have them moving. Keep me posted please. I'm real close to Murray hunting this week. Tuesday there were 100s of birds and shot an easy limit. Watched waves of them fly to roost around my field before dark. Wednesday there were just stragglers as all those birds must have left overnight or just before sunrise. Shot a few yesterday, but mostly singles and passing shots. Today there was none. Zero Dove.

Al I know is there are 3 mature pecan trees in my backyards. When the doves move through, they are on the ground eating by the hundreds. I'll let you know.
