I was just in the Colony, north of Dallas, and there is a gigantic sporting goods store there that is about to open.

Scheel's Sporting Goods.

I've never heard of them but they have a lot of locations in other states.

Anybody ever been in one?

Years ago I was in one in Grand Forks, ND, it was a waterfowler's dream. Everything imaginable for duck and goose hunters.

I've been to the one in Reno and Salt Lake City. Cool place to window shop, lots of inventory and very high prices.

I will be there checking it out when it opens, that area is going to be busy come holiday shopping. They have really done a great job there with vehicle access and a lot of places to eat, the Lava Cantina host a lot of big name bands for a excellent price.

Truckyard is one of my customers.

Their new place is amazing. Great food, full bar, live bands on the weekends and they are putting in a brewery.

Scheels are well know outside your area and great stores. They will put a dent in Cabelas sales.

Theyre gonna put a hurting on Bass Pro and Cabelas... Quality gear, knowledgeable employees and a store that has a culture of helpfulness rather than "I'm smarter than you".

Sort of like McDonald's (ice cream machine always broken...) compared to going to a Chick-Fil-A... very different experiences and quality.

Their prices are not any higher than Bass Pro and Cabelas and they run the same types of sales.

maybe hopefully they'll not use all their available space
for soccer and jogging crap like oshman's used to, and
academy is doing now.
i'd like to see an outdoors store with a full selection of
camping, fishing, and hunting stuff instead of kid's jockstraps
and pink nike sports bras.

i happened to be in academy the other day to pick up my
license, and noticed they've pretty much cut back all the
camping, fishing, and hunting stuff to the bare bones
just like oshman's did before they closed the doors.
one cashier and one customer service person was all
i saw in the whole place. nobody at the "gun" counter.
i think besides the cammo rubber boots they had maybe
3 or 4 different types of hunting boots for the season.
years past they had both sides of a whole aisle full in
all sizes. pitiful selection of goods compared to years past.
oh well. . . .
they same padlocks they put on oshman's and gander
mountain's doors will fit on academy's doors just as well.

Do they carry a large selection of bass tackle and rods and reels?

Yes sir...I have been in several of their stores up north while on business and they cater to the region. Much larger selection of hunting/fishing with less emphasis on the stick and ball stuff. Their model as I have seen so far is one of customer service 1st while maintaining a good inventory of quality gear people actulally utilize rather than pushing their own brand.
