I have the Sig 3000 BDX binos Decided to check them and my 2400AB to see how POA vs POI looked. I hung an old Stop sign on my wooden fence flush with top of fence. I can only get 21.4 yards away but thought that would work.... maybe not. When I range the fence with the Binoculars the fence ranges correctly but the stop sign consistently ranges 27.6 yards... so pretty much 6 yards further. Do the same with the 2400 AB it shows pretty much same distance for fence and the stop sign. What the heck would cause that. Also noticed the beam must be vertical??? As I can shoot a foot over the fence and still hit the sign/ fence.

Ok follow-up. Talked to Sig. While they had not heard this particular thing happening the person said that certain colors could be the issue. I turned the sign to the silver side problem went away. So my RF doesn’t like the color red I guess. Well there goes that Red Stag Hunt.

I used a Sig 3000BDX for several days this past weekend in the TX Panhandle. I was very impressed with the ranges the RF would pick up. When using it in a little tighter quarters, I was getting what I thought were inconsistent readings so I decided to see if i could figure out where the beam divergence was in comparison to the dot reticle. I was about 100 yds from a telephone pole so I entered the scan mode and went back and forth across the pole with the reticle. When the edge of the circle approached the edge of the pole I would get a reading, and when the circle exited the pole, just outside the edge, I would stop getting a reading. Then I went from top down on the pole, and I would get a reading on the top of the pole coming down anywhere inside the reticle itself. I started getting readings at 6 o'clock, and just outside the dot reticle.. In other words if I wanted to range the top of the pole I would have to hold the circle reticle at 6 o'clock and a touch outside the circle to get readings. If I held the top of the pole inside the reitcle and worked it toward 12 o'clock I would get nothing. In a nutshell, the POI of the laser was totally outside the reticle. I don't like that.
That is the same as mine. The center of my beam seems to be halfway between the bottom of the circle and the top edge of my numerical yardage readout. In other words I need to center the target between the circle and the yardage number. I plan to try my stop sign test at longer range tomorrow just to see if I get same results of different reading on high reflective objects.

UPDATE: I took my Stop sign test to the range and leaned it up against the target backer at 654 yards and ran the Sig Bino's on the Stop sign and the backer and it read the same distance 653.9 ..... I also checked the Bino's against my 2400AB and they were reading 654.1 close enough for me. I did verify again that my beam starts in the bottom of the circle and ends at the top of the yardage readout on the bino's...my 2400AB seems to be centered pretty well.

Thanks for the update DStroud. I'll likely wind up with the Sig. Even though I'm not a competition shooter, I can see the handiness in hunting situations with the ballistic data readouts. I won't shoot at animals past 800 anyway.
Have you been pretty well satisfied with your set?
Yes so far. I am using mine with Kestrel 5700 and if you have enough time you can get elevation and wind hold right in your Binoculars display. Derrick at Horizon turned me in to it as he used it in Africa to make several LR shots. Of course he had a top notch guide who was running the Kestrel while he ranged with Sig Binoculars and he was impressed by the performance.
I have played with them at the range for a month or so and they work well and Dope has been accurate. I used them this morning ranging deer out to 450 or so then checked against my 2400 AB and they were always less than .1 mil different. Ended up my Spike elk was only 168 yards so didn’t a RF but you never know.
