Anyone know who has Varget in stock?

I am down to my last jug and back to cutting down my shooting to make it last.

Looking for a few 8# ers from the same lot.

Right now Varget and Retumbo are the hard one's to get. I've been told late fall until we see more Retumbo.

Any word on when Varget will be available again?

This may be the drought that causes me to change.

May try CFE 223 as it appears to add some velocity and seems readily available.

Nice thing about the .308 is that it will run well on a variety of powders, but Varget is my favorite.

I hate to hear this, I just started a new build that will need Varget. I better start shopping now since I only have 2lbs.

As most of you probably know, RL15 is a very close twin.

Have used it years ago, but found it to be pretty temperature sensitive. H4895 works well enough, may have to look for some. Also may test some CFE 223 as it appears to add about 100 fps or more and also try IMR 4166. BLC2, H414, 4064, and 3031 are old and more temp sensitive powders, but are other options in a real pinch.

Wonder why ADI cannot scale up production or is this wholesalers hoarding again? Was awfully interesting how the market dried up when Obama was president and then flooded overnight right after Trump won.

XBR 8208 has been my second choice. AR Comp is another which IMO is just as stable and is cleaner but you do lose a little speed.
Shooters World has a Varget twin that’s supposed to be good but I have not tried it as no one around here sells it.

Imr 4166 is another great option as a substitute.

CFE 223 is a double base powder (temp sensitive), and has agents in the powder that slick up the barrel. Your extreme spreads will certainly increase with CFE 223 powder. I'm not a fan of that powder. My go to has been 8208 for many different bullets.

I like CFE223 for some applications but it is not as temp stable as some of the other powders on this thread.

The Shooters World powder is the Lovex powder I have been running. I'm using Lovex "Match Rifle" D073-06 in my bulk 308 ammo and like it a lot. I have some S062 to try, but haven't tried it yet. The 073-06 powder is perfect for 168 grain loads in the 308. This is what I mainly shoot when I'm plinking with my 308. (I'll be testing some new WC 846 S powder and trying that out also to play with)

Thank you very much jdb.

Going to test some of the 8208 anyway and maybe some of the Viht powders. They usually seem to be available. Any thoughts on which Viht powder works best for .308 with 175 SMK's?

IMR4320 was a surprise and much closer than many of the others. I've not noticed it being temp sensitive at all.

All others mentioned are good but a few years back they changed RL15 and it's now just a little slower than Varget...to the point I've started adding .5 grain to my Varget loads to get in the ball park.

Sounds like you are setup. The Viht N140 is supposed to be close to Varget and much cleaner but I've not tried it....also, the last shortage a buddy of mine got hooked on the BL-C2 or something like that and liked it better than Varget.

I have heard that about RL15 but if true I wonder why our military would use it as they did a few years back. Not sure what they are using today.

They dropped RL15 from M118LR after testing confirmed complaints from the field about temperature sensitivity. I do not know what powder they use now, maybe Varget and that's why it is unfindable? If so, then that is great news that some Marine or Soldier is getting good ammo.

I know that's BS because you have to have some H4350 hanging around for your other gaymoor…...just sayin'

Sure wish I would have bought more H4350 when I last had the chance. Didn't know I was going to be feeding two rifles out of what I bought last and passed some up I should have bought!

Ive been looking for some H4895 as well. Earlier this year it seemed like all cabelas, buda and BassPro SA had on the shelf every time I went was varget, but it is gone now!
