Figure out how you are going to carry it!!!!!!!!!!!!!  great point, would like it fairly portable as it will accompany me to the deer stand . if a piggie comes close..boom...miss....but had fun. I had my hands on a FA Custom, .44 Mag, Octagon barrel, etc. Called FA with the serial number. she said it was a $3500 gun new, It was priced at $1500 on a consignment. I imediatley dailed the LGS. The owner bought it before me  I just pack a 45 ACP with 255 hard cast for that situation, especially the missing part. Grin.

T/C Contender or Encore. Either is very capable of sub MOA groups with good ammo. You also get a velocity boost over a revolver.

This was a 3 shot group from mine in 7-08 with a 6x scope at 100 yards

Colt Anaconda, spouse took a Shiras moose with his few years back. I nailed a weirdly acting coon with it last hog hunt in Texas. At 50+ yards open sights it's deadly.

Great stuff as usual from all you guys, THANK YOU. I would love an Anaconda but not in the budget for this purchase. The reason I want a .44 is cuz I'm set up to load for it.
Dont want to break the back or the bank on "this" one.

The Ruger Bisley grip and hammer location lends itself to faster followup Big fan of Ruger single actions since the early 70's, especially when it comes to big bores. My personal preference is a 5 1/2 inch Black Hawk convertible chambered in 45 ACP/45 Long Colt but I've run thousands of rounds out of my 44 Mag's. Personally I don't like the Bisley Grip it trasfers too much recoil, I'm a let it roll shooter and the factory grips work much better. Said I'm not fond of the grips but I do like the hammer, follow up shots are easier for me. Like you I've never had a problem with a Ruger Single action and I couldn't tell you how many I've owned. My favorite hunting handgun. Your convertible BH is exactly what I'm using this season. 45 Colt will drop anything that needs dropping. I've been killing critters with that cartridge for decades. So Buzz, what are you getting?

45 Colt will drop anything that needs dropping. It's kept the 44's sitting on the bench.

Me personally i'd go :Ruger Super Blkhwk Bis Hntr 0862 .44MAG @ $750
Yep you can get more accurate , harder hitting etc. , but not at that price.

I hate to be the wimp in the room, but I sold my last 44 mag (only gun I have ever sold - I gave away my others) because they hurt my old hands. I was developing a flinch, and followup shots were very slow because of muzzle flip.I had big bores for years, the Desert Eagles in 50AE/44Mag and 44AutoMag were always a joy to shoot in the past.
Now, my 357's with full house loads are snappy for sure, but it's a whole different feel that I seem to handle much better. In fact, my GP100 seems to guide itself to the target.

I haven’t shot the Bisley Blackhawk but my Super Redhawk is a joy to shoot compared to the Blackhawk I used to own. My exact experience. I don't have any experience with any other .44 mags. Blackhawk had a 6" bbl. Super red hawk has a 7 1/2" barrel. Awkward to carry but very well balanced to shoot. I use it for fun gunnin and it lives in the mule on the ranch for up close dispatching - 0-80yds. I really like the SRH and ended up selling the blackhawk.

I carry the 7 1/2 inch barreled S&W 629 hunter package in good shoulder holster. Works pretty dang good for hunting

Over the years I’ve had Ruger Redhawk, Smith 29’s and a TC Contender which was my 1st 44 mag. For hunting and metallic silhouette the TC kicked butt. Flat loved that one but someone else wanted it more than me.
