I am going to buy a range finder but have no experience using one. I grew up hunting in East Texas where they weren't really needed but now I am primarily hunting in West Texas where much further shots are possible. I'd appreciate your feedback/suggestions.

Many thanks.

I've never used a range finder but before you drop that kind of coin
you might want to try the free Mapulator app for smart phones.

Assuming you are in a stand, drop a pin on your location
then drop pins on other reference points you can see in the satellite image.
Make a little sketch map and write the ranges in.

I will take a look at that app but I am not on a lease. I am often hunting in new places where I think a range finder would suit me best. Thanks for the idea!

I've only owned 1 rangefinder, the Leupold Havok. Clear, fast & easy. For hunting it has done everything I've ever needed. About $200

I originally bought a Vortex Ranger 1800. While it works fine, it hasn't been out of it's case since I got the Kilo 2200.

x3 on the Sig Kilo 2200-- I had Leica, Leupold and Vortex-- the Sig has the best combination of user interface, glass and capability. I never could get my Leupold or Vortex to 'advertised' ranges... not a problem with the 2200.
