I'd buy it, but with a true Mil reticle.

The XTR II is a very good scope.

What do you not like about it? The “bdc” lines? Or am I missing something?

Honest question

Yes, those lines are for what bullet? At what muzzle velocity?

Maybe 10% of the BDC reticles have I seen ever work out to be correct. Go to a Mil or MOA reticle and learn your real holds, write it down, practice. And as long as the ammo doesn't change your holds work. If you change anything about the ammo, it creates new data, no big deal. And Burris missed the boat on the width of the elevation lines, they need to get wider at the bottom, not wider at the top.

As long as I know the blueprint, I don’t mind those reticles.

Not saying they’re perfect, but they do tend to work out if you know the dimensions of the reticle.

JG, have you used one of the Nikon BDCs, actual ammo data, and their app? I like the idea behind it, but never have stretched it out past 400 or so.

Friend of mine has a Nikon. No app, no computations, just shot steel on the range. Their rings in the reticle didn't work for any distance. We had to take notes, and draw a picture of the reticle, and where the correct holds should be. It's pretty silly to me. Take a .308 and want data to 500 yards, all I have to write down is this:

200, .5 Mil
300 1.0 Mil
400 2.0 Mil
500 3.0 Mil

Same scope on a .223 might be:

200 .3 Mil
300 .7 Mil
400 1.7 Mil
500 2.3 Mil

No picture to draw and tape to the rifle, just need some numbers for corrections.

So in other words, no? The app literally does everything you just described.

Like I said, it has worked for me out to 400 but that’s as far as I used it.

It's funny, you're putting more credibility into an app over us physically shooting the rifle and scope, at various distances on a real rifle range. Ballistic calculators are making predictions, DOPE is Data On Previous Engagement, in other words, real world data.

Quintessential millennial.

No. I’m asking if you verified the information the app gave you, instead of reinventing the wheel. If you haven’t used the app/scope combo, just say so. It was a question asking for honest feedback, and I think I have got my answer.

Quintessential narcissist.

Why do I need to use an app dedicated to one type of stupid reticle?

I dont, I've got 800 yards to use. That is not narcissistic, that is giving an answer to a stupid question.

Ok, whatever. I asked if you had used the Nikon bdc reticle and the app that goes with it and if it worked or was completely out of whack. The reason I asked was because I know you have 800 yards to use, good rifles, and good ammo. I never said someone should completely trust what the computer says and never check it in person. I suppose you haven’t used the stupid app. I don’t know why you get off belittling people on the internet, but I hope you had a good day avoiding my question.

Adios.

Will you answer the question?

Have you used the app? was it close, or was it trash? It’s a simple “yes” or “no”. That is all I asked for, and still don’t have a real answer.

I skipped any app, any ballistic calculator and went straight to shooting. I thought that was pretty clear.

That means chit to me. Those are guesses at best and I do not trust reticles like that. I can swap my XTR from .22LR to 300. win mag and still know where I am at. That ballistic reticle is worthlessness.

And once again, have you tested it?

It wouldn’t seem like this would be such a hard question to answer.

TC, any BDC reticle turns to chit as soon as anything ‘ballistic related’ changes. I was suckered into one a few years back, luckily I learned that fact and only dial with it.

Would that not be true of dialing as well? All your previous dope would be irrelevant, or am I somehow completely thinking the wrong way about this?

Again, I’m not saying they’re the be all end all, and if someone uses one they should most definitely verify the drops. I just don’t see how it would be crap if you do your part.
