Janis Joplin died 49 years ago. RIP

Also, the first 106 students started the fall session at A+M in 1876, in fall of 2017. 68,625 students started the fall session. A+M also was new and got a new president this day.

PS. A shout to all you oils field guys, yesterday Dad Joiner brought in Daisy Bradford No. 3 in east Texas, opening up the east Texas oil boom.

Have a positive day.

Secret is to only post rarely! smile

When I was in the classroom Texas History was/is my favorite subject to teach. I still get lots of emails in regards to Texas. That and I tend to remember the really trivial stuff.

Texas and it’s history is like no other. Most people have no clue all the great things that have happened right near where they live and work.

Very good. Lexington of Texas and the birth of the Come and Take it flag.

Date of annexation to the US?

Date of Houston’s victory at Battle of San Jacinto?

Battle lasted how long?

What injury did Houston sustain?

Ha.

How did Houston's troops identify Santa Ann among captured after battle?
April 26th 1836?

What was the Yellow Rose of Texas and what did it have to do with Battle of SJ?

First one was because the soldiers saluted/bowed to him.

Have forgotten details on second one though - something about a woman sleeping with Santa Anna and passing secrets?

Interesting on Pineda. I googled him and he lived 1494 to 1820. His original map is still intact and at the Seville. Correct date on mapping was 1519.

Quote
spanish mapping of texas. Early in 1520 the pilots who had sailed the previous year with Alonso Álvarez de Pineda laid before the Spanish crown an outline sketch of the Gulf of Mexico . This crude rendering, which survives in the Archivo General de Indias in Seville, represents the beginning of the Spanish mapping of Texas.

Texas Rangers basically started out as hired guns, many would have called them thugs. They were effective at what they were hired to do.
