My daily carry on the ranch is a 1907 year model by serial number Winchester 30-30 Model 94 with a side mount 4X Bushnell Banner scope. It has served me well but with 70 year old eyes, I need to change. My shots are from 10 feet when my dogs bay a hog to 150 yards to shoot a coyote. The 4X has too much power at close range and I can't see if the dogs are out of the way enough for a shot and I don't want to kill one of my dogs accidently. My son has a Trijicon 1X6 on his AR. I liked it until he told me the price. Do any of you have a recommendation on a 1X6 brand of scope that is pretty good quality but not at a Trijicon price. This is a beater rifle that goes from ranch truck to ranch truck to Mule to 4 wheeler to my go to town truck so it needs to be quality enough to keep it's zero.

I would like for it to have a lighted reticle or dot to help me see better for a night shot. Some times the dogs will bay one at night and I have to get out of bed and either walk or drive to them to take care of business.

Vortex Strike Eagle; Palmetto State Armory was running a pretty good sale on the 1-8. Assume the same on the 1-6. I paid $299 for an illuminated 1-8 with a mount not that long ago and for what I bought it for it hits all of the marks you mentioned above.

I don't like the reticle on the Vortex. I'd look at Leupold VX-R (1-4x) or VX-5HD (1-5x).

I have a Burris Rt6 that I’m pretty happy with. It’s 1-6 and has an illuminated reticle. I replaced a Vortex strike eagle with it and so far it’s better in every way.

What was wrong with the strike eagle that you replaced it with a Burris?

I didn't really care for the clarity of the glass. I feel like the clarity and contrast on the RT6 is much better. Having had both, the build quality seems better on the Burris as well.

Burris rt6 is nice and so is the Athlon Midas BTR 1-6x24. Have two that I hog hunt with.

I’d recommend the Burris as well.

One thing to keep in mind: most of these scopes mentioned have a 30mm tube. Idk how your current mount is set up, but they aren’t going to fit in your current 1” rings.

The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.
