Do not underestimate the costs of college and the power of compounding. Start now and contribute as much and as often as you can-without fail.
529 college plans lifetime hunting & fishing license separate account for college graduation hunting trip with Dad (we did this knowing once he graduated and start real job, the time off for vacation for week+ hunt trip would be difficult). Think Africa, Alaska, Youkon... lifetime trip and memories
I like that pearl idea.

We started a 529 plan for both our kids. Giving each $200 a month. Was able to put some lump sums in there as well. Planning on a state college tuition and books being 80K in 13 years.

When my first boy was born, I had 3 knives made. One for my dad, one for me, and one for my boy. Fast forward 2 years and along came our second boy.
I reached out to the knife maker of the original 3 and sent him pictures and had him make me a 4th knife. All 4 are identical to one another, and there's a 3 generation set.

My brother spent $60k on his daughter who went to UT and graduated 5 years ago. She lived very frugally (3 roommates, no car, worked). I hope $80K is what it is in 13 years. That is when my daughter will be in college.

I would do silver. You can start with coins or bars. You can keep a theme and it is limitless what you can add. It’s relatively inexpensive, will grow in value, and he can continue it indefinitely. I have been giving each of my 2 grandsons a roll of silver Eagles on their birthdays since they were born in addition to each of their 529’s I set up and funded right after they were born. Hopefully a good start to their education needs. My son just took over our company we started together 7 years ago.

When he is 12-14 years old buy him a beat up 4x4 pickup from the year he was born and restore or build it as a project together.
