Looks kind of like mountain laurel to me but I'm no expert.

Hard to tell from that picture, could be a native wax myrtle.

If the small black fruits are part of the bush, then it is persimmon

The black things are “fruit” and have dried I guess from lack of water. I know it isn’t mountain laurel and was thinking persimmons. I will try to zoom in on another picture and post shortly. Thanks for your help.

Not a mountain laurel. Looks like persimmon.

Lots of it in the Edward's plateau. Deer love the fruits. I think they nibble the leaves too.

Persimmon fruits have a leafy looking cap on them, like a strawberry. A closer picture of the fruit would help.
I posted a picture of a bush almost identical to that, it was a lotebush.

It could be lotebush but by description the fruit is small where this is grape size.

Here is an enlarged picture. [Linked Image]

I also didn’t notice any spikes or thorns on it.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.
