Has anyone been hunting here before? Do you have any expert advise? It looks like a free for all. Which area of the unit holds the most game?

Are y'all doing rifle or Archery? I drew last year, but couldn't make it. Google around for some Nilgai heart placement pictures. It's a little different than a whitetail. They have really thick hides which make for little to no blood trail. I think it was an article from Hornaday that said the Nilgais toughness was 2nd to only the cape buffalo. While I'm not sure how true that is, they are very tough. They like to defecate in the same area so keep an eye out for that. If there is fresh droppings they will come back to it from what I hear. Hope that helps a little.

We are rifle hunting. I'm very excited. I wish one of the experts would tell me where in the shoulder or neck to aim. I have heard that they are extremely hard to bring down....

Check out this thread for info you are looking for. https://texashuntingforum.com/forum...itetail-nilgai-hunt-any-info#Post7260093I hunted it in January of 18. I think there was only one taken when we hunted and I didn't get to hunt hard as I had my wife and son with me, wore their legs out. Really cool place, saw lots of deer. Get as far from the roads as you can, NW corner was where they were reported when I was there. If I ever draw again I will have a bike with a tow behind cart. Permethrin on your clothes and a good bug repellent even in January. Cold front blew out our first day and it was 70's after that. Put a stout bullet in the right place and they will go down just like anything else. Google their vitals and CNS. Practice, practice practice. Shots won't be far unless you want to, it is pretty thick with few high spots. There is some coastal prairie that is 5-600 yards of open space. I several deer less than 200 yards and could have easily closed the gap with the cover there. Good luck, I'd hunt it again in a heartbeat!

I drew the first hunt in the second chance draw. Looking forward to the hunt, it’s been over 10 years since I have Drawn it. The orientation the at 9:00 am the morning prior to the hunt is a pain in the butt.
