Yesterday I replaced my Rem 700 in 308 stock trigger with a timney trigger. While I was pulling the trigger a small spring fell out.... I thought it was part of the old trigger. When I chamber a round/cocked it on safety everything works and then shoots fine. BUT if I chamber a round on fire it will not cocked- it doesn’t fire, it just will not fire.
Any ideas?

Spring is about 1/2” long

Just pulled the stock off, and it’s working fine. Even more confused now

That says to me the trigger is rubbing against the inside of the stock. Time to investigate and get the files out to make clearance.

to start, check your old trigger to see if this is the spring in question. scroll down in the link to the animated diagram

as fireman says, the stock, most likely, will need to be slightly relieved to fit the timney without binding issues. the timney housing is slightly fatter than a factory trigger

That spring you have pictured is the spring out of the x Mark trigger so definitely not that..
I had a stock when it slipped together was pushing on the safety lever ever so slightly and locked everything up as you described. When I bed one now I relieve the trigger and safety area pretty liberally and haven’t experienced that in a long time. The timney triggers are a lot fatter in some areas than the stock triggers..

After I posted, I found a diagram and realized where the spring came from the trigger. Made some adjustments and seems to be working fine now. It was rubbing the stock.

Timney say on the 700 wood stocks you will need to remove material to install correctly. I think the safety mech
rubs on the wood not allowing to function correctly.
