Free food, drinks, lots of pretty ladies. I'm in. I've had some great times at weddings, dressed in tuxedo, the ladies love it.

Depends on where and who, didn't go to my granddaughters cause I had to work and it was at the JPs office downtown SA.

Yes, I hate attending weddings. I’ve been to too many as it is.

Pro tip for people getting married: keep the ceremony as short as possible and keep the open bar open as long as possible. You’re basically throwing a party for the people you invite when you invite everyone you’ve ever met. Otherwise, just invite immediate family and friends (the people required to attend) and do it how you want.

If they are good friends not at all

I hate attending. Period. Weddings, funerals, your birthday or mine, sporting events, amusement parks, stores. Etc etc.

Now have a small gathering at my house or yours I’m all in. I have social skills because at times my job requires it, I’m actually good at it, in short spurts. Anything over an hour my social skills turn sociopathic.

I don’t think it’s a cool thing or fad. I think there are many like minded people here who like to chose who they spend their time with.

The last two I went attended were the my son's in March and my daughter's in May. Both were special for the kids and their new spouses with many friends and family.

Both were BBQ and Bar and a bunch of music/dancing at the reception. They were well attended and I can say I appreciated everyone that attended and believe all enjoyed the event. I had the opportunity to meet some great folks from the spouses family/friends as well!

BTW we threw down the gauntlet for the father/daughter dance with my buddies...

I'm not a fan & have tried to make it clear to others that's not my thing, so to speak. I think wp expressed it better than I can, we sound like the same person

The last one I went to made my wife and I pretty irritated. It was the most classless/tightwad affair I've ever seen. I really didn't want to go because I find the concept of a big second wedding comical. You already had your chance for your big day. Just go to the JP or have it at the house.

I knew we should've declined to go when we discovered that they had invitations for the ceremony only, or ceremony and reception. Pretty crappy feeling walking out of the chapel thinking you're going to live it up with your friends only to have them sheepishly tell you they're going home because they weren't invited to the reception. A good friend of ours called the couple on it and didn't attend at all. They had enough funds for an antique car and live band though.

The ceremony was terrible. The pastor kept it short, but poignant. They on the other hand, spent about 20-25 minutes EACH reciting vows that told their whole story along with being weird at times. Maybe 30 seconds was actual vows. We didn't need to hear about how you were glad to have not had sex before marrying each other, but almost did multiple times. We also didn't need you to gush over the 6,7,8? kids between the two of you from other marriages.

At least they sprang for an open bar.....Oh wait, it was an open coffee and tea bar. I guess those not invited to the reception didn't miss anything. There were people leaving before the meal finished; including us.

A little over a year later; they're getting divorced. Bad mouthing your spouse to your friends and not bothering to ask just how much child support to your ex wives is for 4 kids makes for trouble.

My FIL officiated ours, and I had to lay it out that September is still blazing hot, so his 4 day quasi catholic ceremony wasn't going to do (still wouldn't have wanted it to be long). We were partying in less than 30 minutes.

I only enjoy weddings that have a bar. If they don’t have a bar, I bring a flask. So I half way enjoy those. I can find joy in anything if I can find the booze.

This is why weddings are fun! The reception after party!

I hate attending almost any function or event.

Why would it even be a question if you hate it? Life is to short to ever do anything you hate.
Also, over 50% of people invited to a wedding are usually for the gifts. If you have not seen in over two years, guess which category you fit in? Send gift, miss wedding, everyone happy.
